Thanks Scruf for posting this vid 👍 As someone who spent the past hour or so fighting those fuel lines, I'd like to give some tips and advice. 1. The first fuel line (green clip) came off really easy. That second blue clip gave me hell. After 30 minutes of fighting, I decided to try using push pin pliers to push and hold down on those tabs. Came off in seconds. 2. It was a bit of a guessing came at first to see which quick disconnect tool to use. But the exact one is 3/8ths. 3. I found this to be the best way to get that last line out. Hold/pinch the line while also putting pressure on the tool with one hand. Then get a good grip on the filter with the other. Now at the same time, apply pressure towards each other. You should hear an audio click and can see the tool easily slide into the filter and releasing it free. Be ready for spillage, I noticed this side had the most amount of gas. I hope this helps someone. Good luck! 👍

Just wanted to give a shout out for this video. I messed with mine yesterday figuring that it wouldn't hurt to change out the 16 year old filter on the car. Everything was going fine up until the disconnect gave me a fit. After watching your video again, I put the disconnect tool back in place and did some finessing with the filter and finally the stars aligned as the filter released. Only thing I had to do to remove the filter from its physical location was disconnect the drivers side portion of the catback. Thanks again!

Awesome! Yea, those disconnects can be a pain sometimes, especially when they've been seated in place for a long time. Glad it worked out for you!

You make this look easy (since the trans is out). What a PITA it is.

Awesome video, really helped me. I had a hell of a time getting the old filter off. Was using the wrong sized fuel filter slide off tool. Thanks for posting this, was a big help.

Yea, those "quick" disconnect lines can be anything but "quick" sometimes. Glad to hear the video was helpful and that you got the job done. Thanks for watching!

Like your videos - thanks for making. One suggestion, clean all dirt and dust away before cracking it open. If any dirt get into the line going to the injectors it could lead to partial clogging. Keep up the great work and check out one of my C5 videos if you get a chance!

Why is there two different fuel filters one has two knobs like u got but then there’s on with one knob.
@ScrufsGarage Жыл бұрын
I believe the 1997-98? models just had an inline filter. The 99+ models (mine in the video is a 2001) have a built in pressure regulator, so it is a different filter with the extra port (return line).

I changed mine on my 02 Z06 and then started having random issues, such as pressing the gas pedal and it randomly not going. Longer I drove it the worse it would get with hesitating and eventually ended up turning off on me. I just double checked and it looks like it was hooked up correctly. Is it possible I got a faulty filter? Just find it odd I started having issues shortly after installing it.
@ScrufsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you're having issues, that's always frustrating. If the issue started right after changing the filter, then I would probably start there. Another new filter isn't too expensive. You might also check the DIC and see if there are any pending engine codes that might give you some clues. It's also possible you got some bad gas. Did you fill up at a different gas station than normal?

Hey it's Milton.Thanks for all the good videos. Just saw your video on replacing the fuel pump. I have the black 02 I've been doing work on. Just about ready to crank it up but was unsure on the gas. Hasn't been cranked for about a year or a little less. Has only around a gallon of gas in the tank. Do u think it's fine to run the old gas mixed with a few gallons of fresh gas. Or is there a way I can drain that gallon of old gas out of the tanks. Without removing the gas tanks. Say opening or loosining a gas line?. I just recently found out that the c5s have 2 gas tanks. Crazy. Any advice you could me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
@ScrufsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would just add some fresh gas, and I think you would be fine. My car sat for closer to 1.5 years while I rebuilt the engine. I didn't drain the tank, but did add fresh gas. No issues.

can this be done with the driver's side rear wheel on? And you must have had the catback exhaust removed?
@ScrufsGarage6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe you should be able to get to it with the wheel on. I had the entire torque tube and exhaust removed, so I had plenty of room. You'll still have room, but it will be a tighter fit. Luckily you don't have to do it very often.
@Pitchblack77204 жыл бұрын
Yes. I just did it with driver back wheel on. Tight fit tho

Hey great video! I am going to have a mechanic do this for me and was wondering should I bring it with the fuel tank near empty or does it not matter how much gas is in it? I just don’t know if fuel will start pouring out?
@ScrufsGarage5 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't matter. The filter is up on the frame rail above the tank, so fuel won't flow out w/o the pump running.
@bobt19316 жыл бұрын
Now that you have done this, do you think it would be easier to loosen the filter from the frame prior to removing the hoses? Also, did you replace with a GM filter or other brand? Wondering if that is why the hoses moved a bit from the original. Planning on doing mine this summer (car is still in winter storage) so I will likely do this prior to firing it up since it has been sitting so long. Thanks for the video!
@ScrufsGarage6 жыл бұрын
I think removing the hoses first worked better, helps hold things in place while you fight with the disconnects. I used an aftermarket filter; mine came from Carquest. The GM filter was significantly more expensive. Actually, if I recall correctly, the filter I took off was also an aftermarket unit from Napa. Which was surprising that the PO had replaced it because he didn't seem like the sort to do that sort of thing, haha. Good luck on yours! If you tackle it any differently, be sure to post up for others!

How did you knew that you had to change the fuel filter?
@ScrufsGarage6 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Meraz Fernandez I did it as a maintenance item. If you were having fuel delivery issues (pressure, flow) then that could be a sign the filter needs to be changed.

Will that fix a bad gas gauge
@ScrufsGarage3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately probably not. Typically that's going to be either the sending unit on the fuel pump, or an issue with the gauge.

Doubt you'll read this but you gotta buy chevron techron liquid to fix it. Personally it basically completely fixed me fuel gauge inaccuracy.

Is it possible to install the incoming and return lines backwards? Since installing my new GM filter, I have had problems with fuel pressure (spikes to 120psi occasionally) and loud fuel pump whining. Just trying to eliminate any possibilities before I crawl under there again. (2000 Convertible).

@ScrufsGarage5 жыл бұрын
For the 1997-98 Corvette, the fuel filter is different, but it's in the same location. Your model is just a standard inline fuel filter, and the fuel pressure regulator is up on the fuel rail. While for my model, the fuel filter has the pressure regulator built in. So your filter should be cheaper to buy. But a very similar replacement procedure.

Michael Clim thanks for watching. As mentioned in other comments about the lines, it’s just an optical illusion. Around the 6:40 mark in the video I mentioned that the orientation of the lines is different on the new filter. But the lines are different sizes, so you can only hook them up one way.
