Part 2 in the series of clinic based sessions which focuses on the hookers strike and timing of the feed of the ball.
The context of this short break out part in the 4 part series is to encourage players to individually practice the skill of striking for the ball and coordination with the scrum-half, when this individual skill is adopted in the fundamental techniques covered in part 1 and part 3 the potential for a smooth running coaching session is heightened
Here is a link to a short excerpt from an archive of coaching resources introduced by Don Rutherford as a master class for young players featuring Brian Moore. bit.ly/16IWBIQ Again this reinforces the need to practice this individual skill that in my own opinion is still relevant, now that we have the law change to the engagement.

Given the context of part 1 and part 3 of this series, the content makes sense and in my opinion and represents the basic fundamentals that you could work from to develop a technically sound co-ordinated scrummage effort. Thank you for sharing this.

Generally if we have adopted the binding positions and alignment of the shoulders as shown in the part 1 video, we are then only dealing with the difference in back length to bring the hip and back side to a position where the 2nd rows will adopt the binding and outside shoulder purchase on both props as shown in part 3 video, we generally create a little cradle for the Hooker to sit between the 2nd rows still allowing the alignment of their outside shoulder to get purchase on the props. The extra length in leg is generally compensated by the Hooker adjusting his foot position in comparison to the short leg length of the props. It would only be in extreme situations where the length of back is of a considerable difference between the 2 outside props that you would have problems creating a level and balanced front row that are working in conjunction with each other, taller people usually have the advantage of longer legs, generally the back length is pretty close in the type of people that would be playing in the front row. If your hooker is shorter or your prop is taller, how does that impact the position of the second row set up given the prop and hooker back sides are not the same. Cheers,

never heard such drivel IN MY LIFE - is this man actually being paid for this ? We were doing this NATURALLY 30 years ago - Now the players need a 'care in the community' person to tell them how to hook ?

A 'back in my day' bloke. Good scrum coach from what I can see, with an approach that fits the modern laws to this day.
