Please explain how on earth you can complete the sprint goal with only completing a subset of the tasks without it resorting to cutting corners and a dog and pony show retro?

Here's a small recipe that worked for me: 1) in sprint planning decide as a team in one most important thing to achieve 2) select the PBIs that will help to achieve that 3) if the PBIs fit in the sprint, great, lock on a goal. Add other work you'd like to accomplish in case you still have capacity. If it's too much work set less ambitious goal and repeat 2) 4) on a daily basis check what you learned about moving towards the goal, and replan if necessary Note: not achieving the goal is a possibility, but never compromise in quality. Sprint goal (managers are only capable of hearing guaranteed deliverable) = scrumfall

That's a myth. They commit to putting their best on focus to achieve the Sprint goal. They commit to have the courage to say "no" to whatever puts SG in danger. They commit to respect stakeholders and be open about what happened in case Sprint Goal is not achieved 😊
