Idiot. With that negative terminal way under the cowl….. why did you connect the positive cable when you could have isolated it??? Spinning an open end wrench above a battery with the other terminal connected is a recipe for disaster…..

Fantastic help, thanks for this video! Ford really made it difficult to replace this battery and you took a lot of the guesswork out of it for me. Even with this great video it was still a PITA because it’s buried so deep in the engine compartment and uses that unusual clamp on the ground terminal, not to mention the aftermarket battery being a physically different size than the OEM one.

Thank you for this! My Edge is telling me I've got a battery issue and when I saw it I thought there's no way I'm going to be able to change this myself. But you sir have shown me that I can. Postscript: if your new battery is the same size as the old one, you don't need to remove the top of the airbox. Also, I got sparks when attaching the negative post after the positive and it freaked me out, so I took the positive off and attached the negative first. Didn't want to take the chance of getting electrocuted.

@dannyjohnsonsgarage First off great video! Everything in focus, clear an all topics covered 👌 so many how-to YT vids (especially automotive) are done poorly. My wife's 2017 Edge has the OG Fomoco battery and has to go dropping charge. I noticed you went with a Costco Interstate which exactly what I'm trying to do since I've had luck w their Batts in the past and like Interstate a lot. My local Costco is giving me a hard time, their system has this as a Group 90 ,650 CCA which apparently out here is not carried in stock then I'm basically having to special order. Your battery is an AGM H6(48) 750 CCA which as you said is larger. Is there a specific reason you chose that?, its not a direct oem fit but does fit as you showed. I guess I've always gone with the factory recommended even though I know it truly doesn't matter, the car only cares if it's got 12.5v and enough amp to kick over , but was just wondering why the AGM and this specific batt? Far as I know the original is not AGM. Thanks in advance.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
I believe it was what they had in stock that fit, so I took it. It was more difficult to fit, but it worked.

I have a 17’ Edge Sport. Got it 3 years ago, first year the car would randomly shut down while driving. After a year of trying to figure it out a dealer guaranteed me it was a battery/ground battery connector issue. They replaced the ground connector, and installed a battery. They battery is smaller, it moves around in the spot where the battery goes, and I dont recall it ever being tied down at all, that bracket is there, but the battery can move back away from the bracket. Anyway my issue has been fixed for a year and a half to two years now, except yesterday it happened again. Im thinking about replacing the battery with a bigger one, and re-installing ground/positive. Hopefully that will completely fix the whole problem.

It appears to me that is offered for vehicles where the battery is located inside the car (some have it in the trunk, some have it behind the passenger side foot area) so if yours is under the hood it should not be needed. It’s probably a good idea to reset the BMS system. Key on but car not running. Flash the high beams 5 times, press brake pedal 3 times and wait about 20 seconds as it resets and tests the system. The battery light should flash to acknowledge the system is reset.

It is typical to see a spark, it just depends if it arched or not. This is why the red goes on first so the arch goes to ground and not through the electrical system. Ground (black) is first off and last on.
