Proud owner of a 2015 Yukon Denali XL 4x4.....It has the 6.2L with the 6speed transmission as it was built in 2014......so I haven't had the torque converter issues of the 8speed. I bought it used as well and also purchased an extended warranty that covered it up to 100,000 bumper to bumper with only a $100.00 deductible. It more then paid for itself with air conditioning repairs, magnetic ride control replacements, information screen replacement, rear led tail light housing and some other things. The vehicle currently has 116,000 plus miles on it and runs like a champ. At 100,000 miles I had a complete service did on it at the dealer where I purchased it from. It wasn't cheap, $1700.00 but every thing was changed out and every type of fluid was changed. I plans on putting another 100,000 miles on it. I recently had the other rear led tail light go out. Brand new from a dealer it was going to be $700.00 plus dollars. I found a company in Joplin Missouri that replaces the circuit board in them, better quality, for $165.00. So with shipping etc I had about $300.00 bucks in the repair. It was very easy to remove and reinstall. The turn around was 4 days, as I paid the premium shipping. I have added a front and rear leveling kit and run 305x55x20 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on it and have added a K&N black hawk cold air intake system and flow master performance exhaust system on it. It sounds badass!!!! Lol....The interior is holding up extremely well and I am very impressed how well the leather seats look at this point. I do keep it very cleaned and detailed. I would never buy one of these or ANY other high dollar SUV brand new, the hit when you drive it off the lot is not worth it. Do your research and buy one used with decent miles and purchase an extended warranty with a low deductible.

@@richhomie1971 Was the Zurich Gold plan I purchased through the dealership at the time I purchased my Denali…It had 45,000 miles on it when I purchased it…I still own it. However, about two months ago I had a catastrophic engine failure caused by the cylinder deactivation these vehicles have. It had 150,125 miles on it and happened with no warning. Needless to say, the repair bill was not cheap. I had the engine completely rebuilt at the dealership where I purchased it from as my normal guy was swamped with work and I needed it done. The rebuild came with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty with it….I looked at a new crate motor which would have given me a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty, but they were 3 months on back order and were a couple thousand dollars more…I have had the tune did to turn off the cylinder deactivation now….Do the research about this issue, these motors are ticking time bombs…lol…But with all that said, I still love the vehicle!!!

Bought my 2015 in 2017 with 29,000 miles. I now have 96,000 miles. I love the looks, features, ride & 420HP POWER! The 8L90 (8-speed) transmission does have issues; hard/clunky shifts or feels like a slipping clutch. Also, I've learned that LED taillights don't last forever just because they're LED. The downside is that you have to replace the whole light assembly & not just replace a bulb! GMC wants $600-800 to replace the assembly. I bought online for about 1/2 that price but that's a lot to correct a burned out light! If you're lucky, GMC issued a recall notice in the past couple of months but limits the no cost replacement to less than 5 years of service AND 75,000 miles. I did not qualify because of the mileage restriction. Who in the world only drives 12,000 miles/year? Bottom-line is that I believe my purchase was a great value for what I got. I hope to keep my Denali another 5 years but think it will be hard to fill its shoes at the price I paid.

I bought a new late production 2015 Yukon XL in February 2016. Issues: Both brake and tail lights failed and were replaced on recall. Hard brake pedal at low speeds. Was first reprogrammed and then took it back in and they replaced brake vacuum pump under recall. Gas cap replaced due to check engine light coming on. Not under warranty. There were some other small recall issues but other than that has never left us stranded or failed in any other way. The stock tires at around 25,000 miles started making truck pull hard left/right. Replace with new tires, no issues now. We do get the rumble sound when driving in V4 mode at low speeds. Also it does this brief barely noticeable hesitation thing when you first take off after truck has been sitting? Dealer cant figure it out. Only does it once then goes away until truck sits awhile.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage4 жыл бұрын
JM M The hesitation may be from the torque converter. I’ve heard of some recalls on the “torque converter shake” My Yukon has a history of it being re flashed. I haven’t had really any issues with it but sometimes it can’t make up its mind for a split second and clunks if I try to get back on the gas at around 5-10mph after I was initially stopping
@jmm8664 жыл бұрын
Danny Johnson’s Garage Thanks for the reply. Would the torque converter issue make the car hesitate all the time or periodically? Like I said it only does it once when first taking off. It’s like 2 or 3 slight almost unnoticeable hesitations.

PS: If you ever start hearing the rattle on the 2nd row, lift it up and put some electrical tape around the metal hook and bracket that the seats get bolted down to... it shouldnt have an issue like this considering the price of the vehicle but.... it is what it is.

As the manufacturers find problems with any vehicle line they will implement the fix. With this platform they have sorted out just about every issue and the last years of production are the most reliable platforms to date. Given this the 19 and 20 would be the go to for used. The 8 speed in yours had some real issues when it first came out in the truck in 15. Yours should have had all the upgrades if it was built in 17. The temp sensor was one of the issues. The condenser issue should have been solved by this model year. Check the production date, I bet it was built in 16’.

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Ok well that shouldn't be too difficult then. I bought and used the exact same Harbor freight bar you had in your videos. I supported the engine with the alternator bolt holes, which are m8x1.25. I went to home Depot and bought a steel bolt with the same threads and 100mm long. This way, I could leave the alternator, belt, and coolant crossover in place while the chains fit in front of the belt just perfectly. The 100mm bolts are just long enough to position the chains there and thread all the way to the end of the holes. I used a jack with a 4x4 wood at the rear of the oil pan for extra safety and to lift the engine as needed. Oh, and I bought a few nuts to hold the chains against the heads of the bolts so they didn't lean towards the alternator. Lol anyways, just figured I would try to save you some trouble. 👊

Hey Danny- I’m about to buy one of these and was wondering what you paid for yours? I’ve owned 4 GMC vehicles with the 5.3 liter engine and have gotten hundreds of thousands of miles out of them.this 6.2 liter is a total;;y new animal to me...aluminum heads as well.still a bit apprehensive on that issue.I guess like one of the commenters stated- buying the extended GMPP plan is gonna be a must and will pay for itself for sure.GREAT video man THANK YOU for taking the time to do it
@dannyjohnsonsgarage4 жыл бұрын
John M It has been great so far- just a few things (see my videos). The main concerns I have for the future are new lifters (the cylinder deactivation messes them up no matter what- seem about 100k miles). The temp sensor in the transmission is also bad on mine and makes hard shifts in 2nd gear when not working. You might want to look towards 2017+ or have a good warranty if you can’t do the work yourself.
@johnm57144 жыл бұрын
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Dan I may just stay away from that Denali model and just get another SLT-- the 5.3 liter engine has been bullet proof for me In multiple vehicles and I usually buy NEW so I know exactly how it’s been maintained.I wanted to avoid taking that financial hit but it may be the only way to have peace of mind that I-know how the whole machine has been cared for and it’s no mystery who didn’t do right by the vehicle. Just an FYI- I’m not as young as you and I bought my first house for half the price of a new Yukon...that’s messed up! Thanks for replying man- I’ll keep my eye on your channel 👊🏻

@Backyard Wambo That was a bit unnecessary, the original commenter was just stating that due to the nature of having a more simplistic suspension he/she does not have the same problem. I'm glad they're both enjoying their vehicles regardless, but your message comes across negatively when I read it and I'm sure others would agree.

If it’s still moving it may the sensor (or a dirty sensor, or the motor itself). The tail gate will also do that when the motor is failing

@dannyjohnsonsgarage5 жыл бұрын
Paul Fazi With 11.5:1 compression ratio they recommend 91 octane. I got just over 20 mpg with a lot of hills and averaging 80 mph. That’s okay for a 6.2L 420hp engine in a heavy SUV, but would have probably been a little higher at a slower speed. I took delivery of my 2021 Tahoe High Country last summer, and the new independent rear suspension does wonders on long trips when it comes to comfort, and it does wonders when it comes to improving interior cargo space. At last, fold flat seats with a low load floor in a GM full-size SUV. No more having to lift high to get it onto a flat load floor that’s really high up.
