I’ve become a bit disillusioned with that. Roberts made reference to the Suez Crisis, but it wasn’t that Eden was wrong to take action over Suez without American support. It was the failure of the US to provide political support in the face of soviet sabre rattling that turned a justifiable military intervention into a foreign policy failure.
