Holy crap - even the real ads seem like SCTV skits

No kidding. They seem almost homemade. I lived through these things and I don’t remember them being so bad.

@@marlinperkins6910We were really that unaware back then. We didn't question much. We didn't pay attention to details. We weren't vigilant.

I remember those cheap late night commercials; I think pretty much everyone thought they were a joke. SCTV came on at around 1 AM Saturday morning when all these strange commercials came on - that was basically what was (barely) funding the show, as they hunted around for any sponsorship. That's another great thing about SCTV: they were a parody of an independent network just scrapping by and taking what ever they could, and in reality they were an independent show, just scraping by. We were in on the joke, but vaguely aware of the reality. As a late teen, I worked Friday nights dishwashing at a fancy restaurant outside of NYC, and after a beer and sharing a smoke, I'd come back and watch SCTV, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, and maybe Tom Snyder. In particular, I remember the flower arranging commercial. A flower arranging commercial on at 1:15 A.M.? Yeah, sure, why not.

I thought the Body Mate commercial was a SCTV skit, because the product and the claims made for it seem so ridiculous.

In 20-30 years all the stuff we think is cool now will look as stupid as commercials back in the day. Actually the cool stuff today already looks stupid like testosterone pills and copper Sox.

Wow. I thought that the commercial for the "Floral Arranger Course" HAD to be an SCTV skit! No offense to the 80s but what dumb bunny needs a step-by-step course to arrange flowers? Makes me wonder what ads and products of our times will people be laughing at 40 years from now?

Well don't you want to avoid the mistakes of an inexperienced floral arranger?
