Years ago, when I was young, (OK, YEARS AND YEARS) I was a professional diver. I worked on the Great Lakes during the summers in high school and college, in Mexico for a while, and off the coast of California. I haven’t dove in a long time and keep telling myself I am going to get back in to it but watching your videos I don’t have to! Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you!

Hi Nick, Cold is relative. It is cold compared to the 70+ degree water in near by places. It is cold for the insufficient thermal protection I was wearing. Apologies for the misconception.

Great dive and hunt.👍. Here in Michigan the Thermocline is usually at 10 to 15 feet down with surfaces temps can be as high as 80 degrees. The great lakes thermocline doesn't get much above 55 degrees. Really enjoyed the video thanks . Gregg 👍😃

Hi Gregg, this particular water hole is fed from a dam that draws off of the bottom of another lake, that is fed directly from mountain snow melt. Interestingly, the surface water temps on that lake are in the mid 70s F

Recognized you have new gloves. I was considering to make a collection for you to get you new gloves. :-) I prefer to use a dry-suit the whole year to prevent freezing. Even at water temperatur above 20°C. Best regards from North Germany Stefan

Hello Stefan, it is always good to hear from other divers. I do have a really nice drysuit, but prefer to wear the less expensive wetsuits doing this type of diving. I wrongly assumed the water temperature would have warmed by now… thanks for tuning in!

I meant to comment on the water temperature. Just recently, with the folks heading to the coast to escape the heat, comments are heard about how disappointed they are about not being able to get in the water...too cold!

LOL. yes, there is a misconception that the Pacific Ocean is warm. It is 'warmer' in Southern California, but still not warm. Summer temps. up my way, northern Cali, are 48-52F mostly. I hope all is well with you.

@@mokpot My weekend weatherman is a teacher & surfer. He always includes the swell & water temp report. Swells less than 3 feet, water temp just came up to 61 degrees!!!

Were the gears and the long log a mast from some sailing craft? It looked interesting. The water did look cold. Did you go down to the 40 foot depth off the drop off, Sorry I couldn't tell. Apparently it was so cold the fish weren't out and about.

If you web search, "Old Wooden Boat Crane" you should see examples of similar things. They are roughly V shaped, one vertical stationary side and a longer pole section that raises and lowers. I did not drop into the deep portion. there is a thermocline that is 15 degrees cooler

Yes, I have used my current DrySuit For 12 years. Wetsuits are a better option for the type of diving In this video, which can be hard on dive gear. Notice the duct taped gloves I wear in some of the videos

I have come up with a new "official" list (in my own mind). Paddles are the new "official" item. Golf balls are now elevated to "Unicorn" level. Fins are just below paddles. Fun, fun, frosty fun.

,my preference would be to never drop weight to ascend. If I have an emergency under water, I don’t think adding an uncontrolled ascent to the problem would help. Removing weight at the surface may help in an emergency. Thanks for the question MMM
