Scuba Diving in California

The diving in California is varied and spectacular, but if there’s one thing that defines this state’s dive experience it’s the massive, looming kelp forests that rival the state’s redwoods. Sunbeams filter through, and everywhere you look there’s life: Sea otters nestle on the surface, bright orange Garibaldi show no fear, giant black sea bass are as big as VWs, and bat rays cruise the sandy edges.

The conditions in Catalina are the best it gets in Cali! I usually dive in Monterey, and when I was diving the Channel Islands the thermocline was so rewarding, when we were doing our safety stops it was really warm! If your just going to be snorkeling the surface temp is so nice there, usually in the 70's during the summer. Though I can't say the same for Monterey, the best visibility I have ever seen was 20 ft, unlike Catalina with gets at least 15!
