I went down to Canal Park to see what was in the water out in front of the new breakwater. I ran into a big ol' Bass under a ledge on the Icehouse and peeked inside the cribbing to see what's holding that thing up! Fun dive, the water wasn't too cold and visibility was about 15-20ft. I'm going to get back down there soon with a trash bag and clean up some of the trash, but I think the Bass may have made the old tire his home!

Great video. Looks like a fun place to hang out. Made me miss Kayaking .I can't afford to down hill Ski anymore. If I can't be there it's the next best thing to see others enjoy. I learned that from old folks. If you can't do it anymore share your skills with young people and enjoy watching. 😁

There are shipwrecks and other artifacts buried in the sand that only show themselves after a storm or riptide exposes them....then covers them back up. I'm waiting for "Sophies Wreck" to emerge from the sand on Park Point so I can get a glimpse.

Cool vid. I used to live in South Florida and when I dove one could be surrounded by so many fish that you can't see anything else; crazy how one can dive in Lake Superior and it's amazing to see even one fish. Thanks for posting the vid, I always wonder what's in the water.

I live in duluth mn all my life and fished everywhere and know that area is unfishable but nobody knows fish is everywhere in minnesota. and that was amazing to see that nice smalllmouth bass checking you out without worrying about muskies or northern coming behind it. i'm sorry i was prepared for it to be attacked but northern and muskies are pretty much into duluth harbor while i know that bass is having a amazing picnic in that shipwreck. that was awesome video!

Yes I just like Bernie Smith grew up in Duluth and left when I got married and left and went to the army and then now I reside in Florida as well. And when you do diving in the Bahamas and/or the Keys that’s a beautiful dive. But thanks for sharing that I was always curious how it looks down there it’s kind of cold and nothing really to see. But thank you very much. I haven’t gone diving for years, but wants to go diving in the Bahamas there is no other beautiful place. Good luck with your dives I hope you stay safe.. So Bernie did you go to Central high school? Yeah I graduated central high school went on to business school, got married and moved away. Love Florida don’t think I would ever move away from here. Nice chatting this is Joyce over and out

I've heard it is sand all the way through and about 30ft deep. I'll check the rules and see when I can go down there!

Good evening MNduro, I grew up in Duluth and left there in my early 20’s after graduating from DAIT. I currently live in Florida and used to spearfish 30 to 50 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico as well as lobster dive in the Keys. Diving is more adventurous when you’re part of the food chain. I dove the Blue Springs cave before I was a certified diver, let alone a cave diver. Very poor judgement at that time. I can only remember swimming in Lake Superior at a very young age and it was cold. What was the water temperature? I see kids diving from the ice house.

The surface temp was around 55°F that day. Toasty warm compared to this year, I jumped in at Two Harbors last weekend and it was 46°, so I jumped back out!

@@mndurousa8264 You probably have already considered getting a dry suit. Diving in the gulf we would hit a thermocline at about 60 feet. The temperature would drop to about 60 degrees which took our breathe away and made us pee in our wetsuits which actually felt pretty good. Very seldom did we ever run into any big sharks but we always pinned our fish through the eyes and held the pin in our hand in case we had to let go. One year in the keys we got over 500 Florida lobster (which are really crayfish). This was in a group of five families so don't get me in trouble with the Florida Marine Patrol. We shot a 48 lb amber jack and a 44 lb Cobia over on the east coast off of Sebastian inlet.. We were also getting 6 lb Florida lobsters. Do you spearfish and what are the laws regarding spearing close to shore?

I'll bet your regulator never froze in the Gulf of Mexico. It's an adventure in Lake Superior too.
