Janine! Thank you so much for supporting the channel. It is so greatly appreciated. I have truly been waiting to have a ship video that incorporates ice and snow here in Duluth. It has been such a warm winter and it’s been grass and almost October light conditions all the way up until Christmas. Finally, in this video I was able to capture the ice in the snow and what the cold north in Minnesota should look like. Thanks again for supporting the channel. God bless.

John, great hearing from you, I know what you mean about the winters in Duluth. They can be pretty crazy. This has been the most abnormal Winter I’ve ever experienced. I was just talking to someone about it today. There’s grass on the ground right now and the snow is melting. It is so hard to believe it. it’s literally like living in Ohio or some other southern state that barely gets any cold. Serious, there is grass on the ground right now at the end of January.

@chrishintz1077 you are right, I would defined the people in Minnesota as a hardy bunch. We are very used to the cold so we have those big thick winter jackets and gloves already to go at any time. That ICE! I live at the top of the Inland Waterway, here in NJ & have most of my life. Very rarely have I seen ice in “the Canal”, it’s exciting when it happens. Snow was originally predicted for us from the NY TV stations but Philadelphia says, here at the “Shore” we will have rain. What an exciting video. I’d like to learn about the Indigenous People of the Duluth area, are there any Monuments or Statues to see? I so enjoy when you do a “Walkabout” and show us the City, Thanks and stay warm.⛄️💨

I'm with ya on your "heart being in Duluth". There is something special about that city and I love the cold winter too. I'm from WI, but worked in the twin cities for 5 years and tried to visit Duluth at least every other month. Now I lilve in Kansas City, MO (35 and cloudy today), and watching these videos is bittersweet.

Thank you for the comment. Now you have me thinking about Kansas City. I had a wonderful time there the last time I went. I actually went to a Royals game at Kaufman Stadium. It was fantastic. I also had some fantastic barbecue at Q 39. Regarding Duluth, I really believe it starts with the lift bridge. That’s the crown jewel, and the real differentiator. You don’t have Lake superior, the hillside, all almost buildings that went up in the late 1800s. There’s such an interesting old-school and new school vibe. I absolutely love it.

The drive takes about 35 minutes from the area Lethbridge to the superior entry. Nancy & Dave! An absolute pleasure hearing from you. The thing I tell people is a Duluth has changed, but it also has not changed if that makes sense. The old-school town moves towards a modern era, but they’re still old-school that never leaves. The historic buildings, the waterfront, etc. There’s nothing like the lift bridge, those ships going under, it makes the city so incredible. Great winter video. That is the winter I remember after new years. Snow, ice and well below freezing temps are normal for early January of most every year. We are planning a trip to southeastern New Mexico to see the desert in winter. The southwest desert is wonderful in winter. It may hit freezing or below in winter. There may even be snow. But, it melts very fast with days only in the 60s, 50s, and 40s. So many snow birds leave the north to come to the southwest for the winter of sun and warmer snow and ice free living. The only treacherous areas are the great divide on or near Interstate 10. It can close with heavy snows in the winter. If closed, it will be plowed and cleared very fast. It is amazing the huge number to trucks on the I-10 all year around. Ships move cargo on the great lakes. But, diesel trucks move heavy cargo inside and across the USA. If you have never seen it the Interstate 8 east of San Diego is spectacular through the Cuyamaca mountains. It is only about 80 or so miles east of San Diego and the I-8 is a wonderful road from Tucson to San Diego.

What a massive ship and seeing the guy on the bridge checking these out. You said something about there could cause a issue with KZbinrs taking video of the bridge master house I believe that's the name and if it's the city's which everyone pays taxes for a public service your more than welcome to go film it but not in restricted areas marked. But people see a camera it can go good or bad so know the laws for it. But I'm sure your allowed, I want to stress this too. I'm not wanting to start a argument on the issue because I enjoy a calm channel that Mike works so hard for us. That would be something that Mike would have to look into if he wanted and I believe he would rather keep it the way it is. God bless you Mike and everyone else.
@vibewithmike11 ай бұрын
@Freddie-pe9nz I know I can walk on the bridge in a public area for sure but where that bridge operators houses, that’s restricted. They make sure people are off the bridge before before it goes up. It would be cool to check it out someday though.
@Freddie-pe9nz11 ай бұрын
@@vibewithmike I understand that about not being allowed on the bridge while is in motion. But once it's down you should be allowed to step inside and film because your taxes pay for it. I know that it's not privately owned because you can't cut off a maintenance roadway that you pay to have plowed painted etc. Just a thought that might help answer some questions why you haven't given it a try since you have a lot of viewers asking for the footage of the bridge and how it operates. It's in all good will from my end, like I said I don't want to get our boat family arguing about. It's not worth the drama that it could cause you know. Sometimes it's better to just leave it alone. But you live their might be worth going to check without a camera first and see what the public areas are. If you can see it you can film it in public.

Hey Mike! It looks like winter has finally arrived in Duluth! That was awesome! How fun that you met a boat friend early this morning! Is the Irvin ship museum open through the winter? You probably have to stay close to the big lake and the boats for boat friends. It is fun to walk along Park Point and see the ice along the beach while looking out at the lake. But you could head up the shore maybe and get a different perspective of the lake and other boating spots. Maybe even the other side of the lake and show the boating town of Bayfield? It would be fun to see the lake and harbor from Spirit Mountain as well. Have you tried using a drone camera yet? That would be a lot of fun! Or take us on a hot air balloon ride! Does the hot air balloon company still operate there? If it isn't too cold!
@vibewithmike11 ай бұрын
Lori, you bring up a great question. I wonder if that museum ship is open during the winter? Maybe it’s too cold in there because they don’t have heat for the guests. I’m guessing it’s just the summer. However, it was so fantastic to finally see a ship in the snow. I’m not too much of a drone person. I just like watching them on KZbin.
@DressyBessie11 ай бұрын
@@vibewithmike I think the technology is a lot better with the drones now. You might want to do some research! I was never too interested in operating one either, but I think they are pretty user friendly now.

Well Mike to tell the truth it was one of my most liked jobs I ever had. Most of the them during the summer months you worked in the inter bottoms and sweat than during the winter you worked on the bow and decks and froze. But the thing I like best is I can say I helped build 5 of the 1000ft that are on the lakes . Thank you for doing what you do.

I'd love to see you give us a walking tour of the Interstate Bridge and Pier located on the end of Rice's Point. I'd like to see the Blatnik Bridge up close there, and well as a nice view of several elevators in Superior. It would also allow us to get a better perspective of how ships make the turn to SMET. And finally, I'd like to see the construction used by the railroad to cross West Gate Basin until 1961 which we'd see as you walked along the old abandoned trestle.
