Hey Chris. Solid video, I was researching it because, as I saw you say in the comments, Sony announced the OLED screen dual back button attachment that's coming out in January. $46 for a stock DualShock 4 and $30 for the paddle - a $76 total - will hopefully rival a SCUF controller. The only other major benefit I saw for SCUF was the tighter L2/R2 buttons, but since I'm primarily playing Apex Legends these days, they implemented trigger sensitivity settings in your options menu. Appreciate the honest review, amigo. I write reviews for a living (about a ton of gaming tech), and it's always good, and rare, to find someone with a fully honest review like this.

Cancelled my order on a scuf impact yesterday, after seeing multiple reviews on the controller. Every review i saw, and read told me that the scuf controller wasn’t working proberly after a year. Some even after months. I simply won’t use 200+$ on a controller that won’t last as long as an regular controller. Instead i bought the strikepack dominanter FPS from collective minds. ONLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF BACK PADDLES, i wouldn’t dream of using any mods. The strikepack cost around 40$ (depends where you live) and works out great for me (so far lol) it’s a cheap way to turn your controller into a “scuf like” controller, and if it suddenly brakes, i haven’t spend 100 of $. on the other hand i only use the right paddle, and that’s for jumping in COD BO4. Is there a certain reason you use your left paddle, or is it just preference?

Great video. I couldn’t justify the money for the scuff and having it potentially break, I opted for changing my analogue sticks for the magnetic Xbox elite type (£15 and 30mins of work) and personally I recon the rear paddles really wouldn’t make that much difference for 80% of players out there or at least someone of my ability. Changing my analogue sticks has took my game on a good bit, the feel of them is far better in weight and the height adjustment is fantastic, fortnite is mainly all I play.
@ChrisPetrone6 жыл бұрын
That's pretty cool, I've never heard of that before but maybe I'll check it out. The paddles are definitely not necessary for everybody. I'm a call of duty player so jump-shotting is really important, but for most games the paddles may not be needed.

Do the digital tap triggers improve the amount of time to get a shot off? How does the quality compare with a genuine ps4 control?
@ChrisPetrone4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the digital tap triggers, I haven't tried them yet. The quality of the controller is the same as a genuine ps4 controller. I find that a scuf will typically break in about a year. Either the paddles stop working, the sticks have some sort of ghost movement, or the triggers stop working.
@Jexxul4 жыл бұрын
Wassup. Ive had my Scuf Infinity 4PSPRO for a little over 4 months (With the digital triggers) They work great and haven't broken yet, again... YET. However, my left thumb-stick is screwed up, it always wants to push up for some reason even though I don't use it a lot due to spring by default being turned on. ANOTHER MAJOR NOTE is both of my paddles are starting to malfunction. Im a heavy gamer, but isn't a Scuf meant for heavy gamers? I don't throw my controller around, I take care of it and everything and to have an almost 300 controller act up like this over such little time being used really really frustrates me and i'm sure It would for you or whoever it is reading this. Just know if you decide to buy a Scuf Impact, expect to have problems and thats just the unfortunate truth. Maybe a Vantage or another model would be better quality but I haven't looked into that yet.

Hi, good video thank you for the overview you explained it very understandable and clear! My 1st Scuf controller (Infinity Pro) arrived yesterday but it will take a while until I can use the full potential of this controller. The pedals are sooo useful but it is a process to learn how to benefit from the new movement abilities. I have a question is it normal that pressing L3 and R3 when Sticks are moved full forward is really difficult? I have lots of problems start running by pressing L3 when already moving forward. I have to press the stick really hard until L3 is recognized. The right sick behaves exactly the same so I think it is not a malfunction...
@ChrisPetrone6 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound normal to me. When my sticks are pressed forward, I can still click them down to press L3 or R3. And the PS4 recognizes it. Maybe you can try taking the stick out and putting it back in. Use the little black plastic piece that came with the controller to unscrew it and remove a stick. Also, Scuf has good customer support. The truth about scuf Bought my first scuf a few years back. I had to send it back 4 TIMES over a span of 8 months. Every repair was free. After 5 the 5th time it broke I told them I just want my money back and they allowed it, surprisingly. I bought a new scuf last year. I my broke after 3 months. I sent it back and they told me $80 to repair it. I told them no way just send back the broken controller. Why would I spend 80 after I spent like 150 on the controller. So I get the controller back with no screws in it and a main wire that should be in the controller (a gold strip. Look up the inside of a scuf you’ll see what I’m talking about) so I email them saying hey there’s no screws in the controller and it won’t turn on. They said no way that’s impossible we don’t open the controller unless you approve the repair. I battled with them for over 2 MONTHS!!! Finally after I sent them pictures they said ok send it back so we can further investigate. After they had my controller for 2 weeks I email them and I’m like hello can I get an update? They respond with a price amount of $90. The extra $10 was for the gold wire they took out. In conclusion they are a lying scheming company that doesn’t care about their customers at all... never again

Less than a year ago I got a fully decked out Impact for about $220. I initially loved it. Perfect blend of PS4 and Xbox controller, but less than a year later L3 run goes out and paddles stop working. Send it to scuf and not covered. After many emails scuf reduces repair cost from $90 to $70. They say if I don't pay they're sending it back with no repairs. I had no choice to pay, and sit here waiting for it to return. DO NOT BUY SCUF PRODUCTS. They're cheaply made for the price you're paying. They don't stand behind their products. I'll never buy a Vantage, bc I don't want anymore headaches.

You don't need to buy this special kit to open the controller. You can carve a little deeper in the screw and then use a normal flat screwdriver to get it out.

So are the paddles just shortcuts to other buttons that are on the controller?
@ChrisPetrone6 жыл бұрын
Yes. The left paddle is X on the PS4, and the right paddle is O on the PS4 You can also buy a button remap key that lets you make them any button you want
@calisteezy40286 жыл бұрын

ItzTweety I just ordered myself a new scuf infinity 4PS. I really like them. They do tend to break over time. I’ve personally been good with buying a new one each October. Seem to last a year before the left paddle becomes unresponsive. A friend of mine ordered the impact and has been using it for a week with no complaints. He likes the larger size of the Impact. I prefer the slimmer size of the infinity.
@jawajake35755 жыл бұрын
I bought a 4PS Pro a year ago, can confirm about the left paddle. If you can get passed the increase in size of the impact it will in my opinion last longer than the 4PS (PADDLE SPEAKING) but if you don't mind using only the right paddle or short term paddle usage than the 4PS is worth it. Cuz I mean alot of other benefits other then paddles. Digital tap bumpers and triggers, lighter controller, cool colors etc

Kinda hard to justify $200 for a product that's going to wear down. Granted they look really cool and you can replace stuff like analog sticks but, it doesn't seem like the quality is really that much better than what you get with the standard controller as far as button feel. The digital bumpers seemed like the only thing that was really bringing an improvement to the hardware as well as the additional jumps.
@ChrisPetrone5 жыл бұрын
Great comment. Here’s what I’m thinking. Corsair just acquired SCUF, so I think they’ll be stepping up the quality control big time (hopefully). On top of that, Sony announced a controller attachment that has paddles, for only $30. That may become a popular alternative. The biggest advantage of the scuf would be the paddles, in other words, the ability to jump and aim at the same time. Whatever company can best create that ability while maintaining quality will win the bulk of the business. I’m going to keep experimenting with alternatives to figure out which works best.
@LordMoebius5 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisPetrone Perhaps, Sony always takes half measures unfortunately. It would be cool if they made their own ps4 elite controller but with the next console generation ramping up we might not see that for a while or at least until the PS5 but I still have a hard time accepting needing to pay in excess of $50-$70 bucks for something I know will wear down and break eventually. Like pretty much every controller is gonna wear down and break eventually no matter how robust it's manufacturing. I played fighting games for years and this is pretty much the reason I abandoned pads for sticks since I can swap parts out easier and arcade parts seem to last significantly longer.
@ChrisPetrone5 жыл бұрын
LordMoebius right now it seems like the solution is to accept that you’ll need a new controller pretty much every year. Kinda stinks but not sure what to do about it

Here is a tip from someone with broken controllers- KEEP THE RUMBLES! The lighter your controller, the easier to be thrown instead of waved at someone. Also, take care of it! I bought a £200 controller and it cost £200 to fix, bloody stupid pricing it should be free. Finally, Don't use extended triggers as they will break and try to keep the controller intact except for the friction rings which break your thumbsticks. Hope I helped!

Are SCUF controllers just modified Sony controllers, or do they use proprietary parts? Is the reactivity time between button press (or stick movement) to on-screen action any lower or higher? Or is it just the design and extra functionality that make these any different?
