I haven't found an updated video on baking longer than 60 mins, or higher than 275°. How did those tests turn out? Thank you.

Thanks Cindy. The Souffle clay is almost twice as much as premonition in Illinois. Therefore, hard to try new product without having an idea of its performance. Thanks so much for this and all of your tutorials. I look forward to the Souffle sequel.

I am very new to p. clay. Did my first baking yesterday, and was distraught at how easily it breaks. I thought it would be a lot stronger. I can't sell items if they break. Please do that follow-up test on hour bake time. Thanks for your lab work.

Someone mentioned a microwave Fimo but Sculpey is also making a microwaveable air dry clay. They are nice for making things that you don't want to add weight to but they come in white so they would have to have color added to them or be painted.
@PolymerClayTutor10 жыл бұрын
Hi ***** I have not tried any of the microwavable clays yet. I am guessing they are water based and not oil, and that is why they can be 'dried' in the microwave. Most of the other polymer clays are dangerous to put in the microwave, so I hope people are careful and only use the right ones in the right ovens!

Have you done tests on Fimo soft? I notice soft and effect are the main two lines I see locally besides the Sculpy and Premo. Another thing I'd like to see tests on are air dry clays.

Thank you for the info. Very helpfull. But I have quite some issues with Fimo polymer clay (no matter how I backed it, some parts always breaks). For example: made small statue Grim Reaper, claws on hand always breaks easy. So, I'm think to switch to Super Sculpey or some other better clay for fugurines. Any suggestions, please. Thank you.

Hi Cindy, I know exactly what you mean some people might make the mistake of trying to use regular polymer clay in the microwave. Although I have seen someone hardened regular polymer clay by boiling it in hot water. I was surprised because it actually worked. Have you ever done that? Although, I've always wanted to try it myself to see if it worked and if so how well it worked. It surprised me when I saw it considering the make up of polymer clay. I'm so glad you baked the clay at different times because I try telling people that the clay can be baked longer and that in some cases it actually becomes stronger. However, there are always those people that just have to go by the instructions and refuse to deviate even though other methods work better. Can you please make a video showing people how to bake clay longer without burning it (especially white). I have a way that I do it but I'd love to see the technique that you use. Thanks so much, Dee

Hey Cindy, I'd love to see a test lab using translucent clay. I know you have done one using the different brands which was awesome, thank you!! What I'd like to see is the effects when mixing it with coloured clays. I watch tutorials and people will add 1/1 then 2/1 etc to make canes but I cant see any difference in colour before or after baking.

My oven only goes up to 270. Will it be fine if I bake it for 45 longer than 30 since they temperature is lower?
@PolymerClayTutor4 жыл бұрын
Is that Celsius or Fahrenheit? 270F is pretty close to 275F so that would be fine, but I would bake for an hour. (Go watch my other baking videos to learn why.) Make sure to use an oven thermometer though. Most ovens are off by several degrees.

Thanks for the test lab...I love all your videos they are really helpful:)..I just had a request if you can use soufflé for larger project like a pot or sculpture and see if it cracks after baking..I have had problems with big sculptures.. As sometimes premo does crack for large size projects..it would be great to see how soufflé behaves..thanks !!

Hi Cindy, have you done these tests(in a video) for every clay on the market? If not, could you? This is really good information. It would save people a lot of money when purchasing clay. Because as we know certain clays are better for certain items we make. As a matter of fact I will even mix different clays because one has more strength but another has better color. Like you also mentioned baking at longer times can be better for certain clays. Thanks again! Take care, Dee

when i sculpt my dragons, i dont notice a difference when i bake for different amounts of times. They are pretty small so i bake them in general for about 16 minutes at 275(f). they sometimes break, but they never bend like what you show. Am i doing something wrong?
@SkulpTools10 жыл бұрын
It's important to ALWAYS bake for at least the recommended time, so 30 minutes - minimum. Remember that baking polymer clay is NOT cumulative! So series baking [meaning baking or re-baking in separate sessions] at less than the recommended 30 min will cause the innermost clay to have a weak bond and that weakness can sometimes leach out to the outer layers, causing breakage. Unfortunately, re-baking will not correct that weakness. You can bake for longer, but NEVER vary from the recommended temp. Cindi's test shows that, at least for Polyform brands of clay, baking longer makes the clay stronger.

Okay, thank you.

So what are the pros of using the new Souffle?
@PolymerClayTutor10 жыл бұрын
Hi Alivieina the pros are that it has a cool suede-like finish that stays matte after baking and doesn't need to be sanded. It makes beautiful faux leather pieces and wonderful organic items like leaves and flowers.

can we get polymere made from recycled plastic??
@PolymerClayTutor5 жыл бұрын
I don't know if that is possible. I think it is made with ingredients that when combined, become plastic. I don't think it uses plastic itself. But I could be WAY off. That would be something to ask the manufacturers. Would be a good thing if it is possible though. I like the way you think!

I did the 60 minutes my earrings still break. I don't know what I'm doing wrong
@BlueKungFu4 жыл бұрын
Do you have an oven thermometer? If not I suggest that you get one. Polymer clay needs to reach the correct temperature to be able to bond together properly, which is what gives it its strength. Most ovens are not very accurate with their temperature dial so it's best to have a thermometer. I actually bake mine for 2 hours, that makes it really strong. When you say your earrings are breaking, are you putting them under stress or are they just breaking under normal use? Polymer clay is not indestructible, so if you set out to break it, you will. However it should be more than strong enough to withstand being worn as earrings.
