The response to this video has been nothing short of amazing 😻 Thank you all so much! I would like to address a few things about this project: My wife informed me while making this video that this figure is actually a “grotesque” instead of a gargoyle, because gargoyles spout water from a roof. Too late, so we’re calling it a gargoyle 😅 Also, I have had some questions about where the smoke exits. This chimney is non functional, so there is no need in this case. Thank you again for all the love and support, it means the world to me 🖤
@smrtrthnu1571 Жыл бұрын
Are you sure it's non functional ? Alot of times they will vent things like your furnace or plumbing through old chimneys when retrofitting newer systems in existing homes. I know a guy once who covered up his old "non functional" chimney while replacing his roof once time and his whole family damn near died come winter time when they fired up the furnace.

The facial expressions on the cats are perfect too, one looks sweet and gentle with its round eyes while the other looks fierce and serious with its cat like eyes. 'Nice ceramic project, although the material choice seems odd for creating a sculpture for long term exposure to the weather, (I could be wrong, though). How well has it faired, so far? I've been considering making some sculptures for permanent outdoor display, also. And, one product I've seen repeatedly recommended is called, "Pal Tiya", (essentially a sculpting cement, that sculpts like clay). It isn't exactly cheap, (but, what is nowadays?). Except, it has been well tested for surviving pretty severe weather conditions, and is surprisingly easy to use. (No, I have no connection to the makers of this product, I'm just another artist, sharing potentially useful info.) Maybe, it might be worth investigating, if you plan on sculpting more outdoor sculptures? Again, great work!
@MakeStrangeThings Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, and thanks for the great information! I agree, clay is not an ideal medium for long term outdoor sculpture, but it’s what I’m most skilled at using, and I don’t have access to any type of bronze casting, otherwise I’d be all over making this bronze, and maybe even multiples! However, this does give me an opportunity to observe how it holds up long term, which it has so far survived about two dozen summer storms and high winds since installing in June. My main concern is that a limb will fall on it living in a very forested neighborhood. Spalling could happen when it gets to freezing, but we have very mild winters as it is, and I’m going to periodically put more water sealer on it. Thanks again!

I think your art, video skills and humor are amazing. I think your wife is smart, pretty and always right. And I love that you’ve immortalized your kitties in such an epic and medieval fashion. Have subscribed.
