She is absolutly gorgeous! I have calculated about how much money it would take to make five mini m=babies because that is what I wanted to make, and I got the sum of $359.37. I will have to save up for quite some time, but I think it will be worth it. I want to make them like the Busby Quints lol.

Check the description box under the video - I can't swear she's listed exactly everything ('cause, of course, what do I know? I wasn't there, and I've never done anything close to this level of professionalism), but as far as it seems, it's an extensive and exhaustive listing of the materials used as well as their brand names / the brands.

not to be "that guy" but I think it comes down to practice/schooling. Of course with art you don't NEED school- but then I ask, where are you struggling? as you can see she plasters her working wall with reference- the goal after that point is just to manipulate the material to match the reference as closely as possible. How do you do that? 1 understand anatomy 2 understand you tools and your medium 3 patience and practice you can go to a school and learn step by step, or chances are you could find a mentor who will let you intern/apprentice in their shop, or will provide lessons if you show a genuine interest/ pay them to teach you.

@@randygerson911 I minored in art but not much sculpting. I’m very good at anatomy. I think I’m using the right tools. I have to bake it often or it deforms and then sand it to make the head even.

@@annekabrimhall1059 hope I didn't come off as rude. I think really at this point, its just a matter of trial and error. I'm sure Sophia could answer this better- but I think she's using an oil based clay. these never bake, and they never cure- but they do harden as they get cooler. they will almost get to a soft wood type or hardness, but they will never turn to stone- you should be able to just heat them up and get them soft again. simply warming some clays in your hand will make them soft enough to mold- which is often a good way to add some of the finer details. Some of these clays will turn into liquid if the are heated enough- and you can then use them to pour into a mold. some artist swear by there being a "right way" to sculpt- and there are tools that are intended to work in certain ways- but other artists will swear that there are no rules. at the end of the day- whatever gets you the results is what matters no matter how you get there. At its core all making things with clay is, is manipulating piles of wet mud. If you are having issues with deformations- are you sculpting on a armature on a stand like Sophia is? that should save you from applying pressure to the opposite end of your sculpture, deforming it- assuming your clay gets hard enough to hold its shape. Depending on your clay- that may not be possible ex regular white sculpey is often too soft to hold exact shapes much less fine detail, whereas the super sculpey firm is very difficult to manipulate, but it will hold very fine details almost like a carving.

@@randygerson911 I do a lot with Sculpy. I sculpted one head out of monster clay but my molding skills were not up to par so I went back to Sculpy. I always make a frame out of wire and aluminum foil.

if its this quality- its well worth at least that much. Look at the going rate of the materials alone- not even going into the working time. The materials alone in this probably near $100-200. Each casting is hand painted/air brushed. A sculpt that accurate more than likely took about a week at least. If the dolls couldn't sell for that much, there probably isn't that much incentive to make them.

What is the hairspray used for? And do you bake the clay before making the baby into silicone?
@randygerson911
@randygerson911 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't see where the hair spray was used- but it looks like shes using an oil based clay. you wouldn't bake that- it would melt. it looks like it was molded in a concrete or something equally as hard, which might destroy the clay sculpt in the process, but once the mold is made, the clay isn't needed in that form anymore. The silicone is injected into the mold, around the armature and it looks like baby powder was used to help the silicone release.

Hi Chelsey :) I used NSP Chavant, medium hardness. Monster Clay would also be great for a project like this. Both types of clay are sulfur free, and you can achieve a very high level of details.
