I'm planning to learn how to sculpt miniatures so I have a few basic questions, really excited to learn from your videos. What exactly is green stuff and what is it's purposes? Is it so the modelling clay has something to stick to? Just bought Fimo basic air drying clay to start my first project, a simple start to see if I like sculpting. Is this any good for just trying sculpting out for the first time?
@paweljakubgorecki
@paweljakubgorecki 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Happy to hear that you want to start sculpting :) 1. Green Stuff is a two-part self-curing putty :) www.greenstuffworld.com/en/55-green-stuff 2. Yes, you are right. It helps to help the first layer of clay to stick on. 3. You should try to use thermosetting clay (such as Fimo Soft, or Super Sculpey). There are two reasons: The first one - you will get a much better effect than by using air-drying clay. It is just easier to sculpt in them. The second one - You can make the break with sculpting, and get back to it when you want to. When you use the air-drying clay, your miniature will dry during the break. Let me know if you will need more info :).
@wiiseeyou
@wiiseeyou 3 жыл бұрын

@@wiiseeyou My pleasure. I'm here to help:) I think putty like Green Stuff (or ProCreate, or Duro), will be the best. From my experience air drying clay is good for the terrain elements, but I have never baked it :).

I had the green stuff expand on me too! I ended up using milliput and superglue for this step instead :( How do you cut your miniatures for casting? I only do non-mini scale sculptures and don't cast them yet but I am kind of terrified how to cut a mini without cracking it.
@paweljakubgorecki
@paweljakubgorecki 3 жыл бұрын
Milliput is also ok for this step :). If it works for you, you should use it :). This is a very tricky part ... I cut them with a scalpel, and then I try to break the wire inside, by moving the element in many positions. Sometimes some elements crack, and I need to fix it ;).

When i use greenstuff i lubricate my rubber tools with sculptor's vaseline... what about metal tools when sculpting polymer clay? Also do you spend alot of time rolling and mixing the fimo/sculpy before putting it onto the miniature? You're video was so helpful and inspiring sculpting dude!

Thank! I'm really happy that you like it :). It is a good option to use any vaseline :). You do not need to use vaseline for the Fimo or Sculpey, both not stick to the tools. I make a mix earlier, and keep it in a zip bag :).

I’m thinking of making small miniature polymer clay jewellery of cute animals. But seems like it would take too much time to make each one and sell them for an affordable price and have them somewhat standardised. Was hoping you can shed some light into replicating my miniatures. I think I should mention since they are animals they have four legs I’m gonna guess it’s gonna complicate things?
@paweljakubgorecki
@paweljakubgorecki 3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate! Hmmm ... It all depends on how you will create your brand. :) You can still make resin copies of the miniatures you will create :). I'm thinking about making a tutorial about casting, but it is a distant future. The casting process can be complicated. It all depends on how miniatures are complicated. If you will have a simple shape, it can be quite easy :).
