Sculpting Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom - Timelapse

Leave your roast down below! The rough thing about when the likeness doesn't hit is it's hard to figure out what went wrong. Some ideas: 1. I was sculpting off of his Doctor Doom reveal at Comic Con. Where he's clenching his jaw and pushing it forward which gives him a much flatter face. (And tbh I don't know that I necessarily captured the tension in his face to sell that's what's going on) 2. I think the eyes are too sunken in and the corners of the eye needed to be pushed further back to reveal more. All in all, I probably screwed myself over by picking a very specific pose, that I had extremely limited photo reference of, where he is missing his signature goatee.

Honestly looking back at pictures, everything else looks fine besides the eyes. They look a bit small and too close together. Other than that it’s fine. I completely understand the issue of not having many screencaps, I am very new to sculpting and just finished my first latex mask. Not everything is gonna be perfect. You have so many great works on here, I forgive you. Aside from it not looking exactly like RDJ, it is still an amazing sculpt nonetheless. I say great job.

@@StevenRichter it looks absolutely fine. Robert Downey Jr has changed in recent years. His fans aren't ready to accept that he looks old and they don't like this sculpture because it reminds him of that. I think they also struggle to understand how difficult it is to capture somebody's eyes accurately and what the uncanny valley is.

Woah… I just looked it up, and RDJ looks really different without the facial hair and sunglasses… also he looks very different now that he’s older. I think we’re all so used to Iron Man that our brains break a bit when we see what he looks like now. I’m sorry I doubted you Steve. Great job as always. Your skill is impeccable and my brain is broken.

While the resemblance is a bit off, there are genuinely times shown in the video it does look like RDJ. I think its just one of those cases where not every angle was as close to the actor as he could get, which is perfectly fine. He uploads amazing sculptures and once in awhile your going to have one or two that dont nail it on the head exactly. You still make great videos and im excited to see what more you create!

Actual sculptor here ✋ on the thumbnail it looks off but on the video from all the angles looks great,it's clear lots of people really got used to the ironman look and when you take away that people get confused and rdont find Robert downey junior anymore because he is now lots older,skinnier,without his goatee and with more hair than before combining with his lot more skinny face looks like a different man and a much older one,that's confusing lots of people,sculpt looks great and even before the colours and hair work hou can tell is RDJ,amazing work.

@Luke101 off course it's okay to do so,i also even remade stuff i did years ago because it did not look good with the years and advancing my skills,and if i can say something is off is the common mistake of the eyes to close but apart from that when you see how rdj looks on that stage it looks like that,f#*d up lol,he doesnt look anymore like the rdj people know,you look at a man a lot skinnier,older and with big clothes,it's like he sculpted his look from Oppenheimer and people will be looking at an old man and not at rdj because people got used to it,and when you see the sculpture before hairwork and paint and clothes you can totally see rdj there,but when it's finished something is off,that's not rdj,not how we remember it,and even if you see it on stage you can't tell that because he is talking and moving and making his classic geatures and stuff and that can distract from the fact of how much he has changed
