SCUM 0.8 Farming Guide | Let's Start a Garden!

Hey guys, I want to cover some farming. This is one part of the update that I was excited about. Hope this helps some of you.
Game Synopsis: Scum is an open-world survival game based in the time of world new order. As players, we are experimental convicts transferred to a project island. We must survive balancing base level needs with knowledge-based skills and evade and kill zombies, puppets, and threatening animals all while being broadcast 24/7 on a special reality TV show to entertain the world as they forget about the real problems of the world.
This game is an early access game that is still in development, which means that it will evolve as you are playing it.

Edit: Alternatively you can also drag seeds to the seed Icon that pops up over the square in the garden. Same with the fertilizer. Also, in a garden my size the industrial fertilizer is 1 use per usage. There are 3 cycles of fertilizer until ripe. The chemical tools were 1 use per treatment in my garden. and it seems as the condition is handled from 1 use. I got 2 potatoes in one square, and 6 potatoes in the next square. Produce will vary.

Well you learn something new everyday, urine is actually a great way to water your garden IRL. It's a great source of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and trace elements that are good for plants. I always thought it would kill em. Of course I might look at a tomato or a potato a little different if I knew someone was peeing on it 🤣🤣🤣 Plus with a 6pack of beer I could water every garden you got and all the grass in your yard 😝

Heh I like your area. I usually setup in the cabin just south of you. Nice thing about the cabin is it spawns an axe in front of the door a ton and you get free logs from the log piles. Not to mention hunters spawn like candy on the table in front of it.

I've got some weeds that grew quite a bit while I was away. I can't pick them...I put weed killer on them and am waiting to see what happens.

The weed killer should be active. If you focus mode on it, it’ll tell you

YW. They continue to grow! If the plant ever says dead. Then you will have to destroy.

Hmm....where did you get the watering cans? I've done a ton of looting and I don't think I've found a watering can yet. Can you water it with water from a water bottle?

Hello! I did spawn in the watering cans for the sake of making the video in a timely fashion. Watering cans seem to be rare. But you can water from a water bottle or fill up an empty gas can with water

Another tip, if you have a large plot and lots of weeds you can put a garden hoe in your hand to weed and it's much much faster.

So I built this in god mode for the sake of a tutorial. I believe on most servers if not all, you can only place one garden per base

Once the crop dies, you destroy it. The plant will keep producing as long as it's watered and in the correct climate

Pretty cool set up for you. Water right there, crop resources spawn near you, hunting in the area so you can vary your diet, (just watch out for predators, like goats), far away from kryptonite and you have somewhat protected area for the crops. Just curious, do you know about how much of each resource you used from planting to harvest? That would be good to know if someone is going to make a loot run for those resources, how much they should be getting.

Yes! The industrial fertilizer is 1 use per plant. A garden my size went through 2-3 cycles of fertilizer until ripe. The chemical tools is 1 use per treatment, and it seems as the condition is handled from 1 use. If it pops up again you'll use more. Not every garden will have issues though. My potatoes didn't need any chemical treatment.

Thanks for the video :D Do you know how much food a square yields? Just one potato or multiple? Seems like 10% harvest chance is pretty low for all the effort :/

You’re welcome! I think it will vary, one square I got two potatoes, the next square I got 6 potatoes :) it’s not too bad, just plant seed, add fertilizer and water. Go loot do your thing then come back and check it out.

Not one person has said how long it takes to grow crops. How many in game days or irl days does it take? Also can you change the settings for length of time it takes to grow if you are a server owner.

The in game days or irl days will vary. It depends on character stat and on the crop and it depends on type of fertilizer. It depends on what type of weather your getting as well. Some crops grow best in 65 degree weather where others grow best in 95 degree weather. If you are on SP one thing you can do is change speed of day. I think I set my days to be 30min long if I did it correctly.

Most crops seem to take about 24 hours of real life time with medium to advanced farming and no fertilizer. Tree type crop such as apples take longer. Fertilizer seems to speed up the process by 4 - 8 hours depending on industrial or organic fertilizer. They live for about 4 - 6 real life days.

You can find fertilizer in towns. In the farm houses that usually have hay stacks

You're welcome. It will take a while. I had my days speed set to 30 min days I believe. So It may depend on that? the onions and peppers I planted in this video started vegetating in 1-2 hours IRL

Figured it out, you have to destroy your flag, then place another flag where your existing garden isn't inside the circle, build other gardens then repeat the process for more.

I have big problem with gardening. All my plants are dying all the time. I can't be playing 247 and if I plant them and next time I go online they are all brown and dead.

The biggest question...Considering how much you have to micromanage farming along with the other aspects of the game , Is it viable ?

I’d say. Really all the work is put in during the beginning, getting through all the stages. Once plant is ripe, it seems to just produce. You’ll have to check on the garden eventually in between task.

Yes! Go into the metabolism system, find vitamin D then hold CTRL while your mouse is on vitamin D. A description of foods pop up to show you what you can ingest to get more vitamin D
