Thank you, this is a well made guide. I played every game with the lockpicking system before (fallout, Skyrim, Dying light. etc, but I didn't expect how difficult it is. The 10 second time is the only gripe I have to deal with, I mean it's like lockpick and the screwdriver got a life of it own if you staying still or quit, it will break no matter what🤦‍♀️.

funny cause i was lockpicking a drop and i swear to god i was lockpicking just with a bobby pin and no skrewdriver , thought the game was bugged or lagged out then i came here and bam! mystery solved. ty man :)

I have no issue getting the Gun lockers open. But man those 3 second player locks are dang near impossible for me. But I really enjoy that. I enjoy that you have to build in game stats and real life skill to pick the locks definitely adds realism. And keeps people from just easily busting open the base you poured so much time into.

Yes they are hard, really hard actually! But yeah i also think thats how they should be, no one wants any newbie just walking by to be able to raid their base! And if you find lockpicking player lock a bit to hard, you could try getting your hands on C4, just saying! thanks for watching!

its not worth having thievery skill because you can craft the lockpicking board.. its easy to lvl it up

It's so strange that even for basic lock on the lockpick board only gives you 3 seconds to try. It's damn hard and even with advance pick, it still breaks easily.

I think keyboards can affect lockpicking like how high or low your keys are set.

Finally, a guide to understand this very frustrating aspect of the game. Question, is a valid tactic to just bank on the sweet spot being in one segment and give up on the trying to find it? In other words, say, just hope the sweet spot is pie wedge 2 (just left of center) and try to start pushing then? seems like 1 out of four times it will be there, the initial loss of time to find sweet spot can now be used to refine placement. I think this is a good tactic, but eventually, i give up and start switching the initial spot only to miss it more frequently than hitting it?

Im no mathematician but i dont know if thats how statistics work. I use the approach i show in the vid because thats what works best for me, but this is by no means the only way of doing lockpicking. Keep practicing and at some point it will "clik" for you and you will get the feel of it. But like said in the video, a big part of it, for me at least, is luck!

I also focus on 1/2 of the lockpick area. If I dont find the sweetspot in my chosen side within the first two seconds then I just try random very fast on the other side. It takes about 1 second to "turn" the lock, so its always better to go random if you havent found the sweetspot area.

After while you can "see the code" like neo and get just kinda know exactly where the sweet spot is in under a sec or two once you see the first turn. I tried my first kill box and was able to pick a silver lock with maybe 16ish attempts with ZERO lock picking character skill.

at first i couldnt be bothered to do any lockpicking. then i was like.. what the hell... lets try it. after two bunkers and countless police stations with empty -locked- lockers... i'm done :P also, i dont understand the logic behind the time limit. isnt this game supposed ot be hyper-realistic or something? they should find another way to "measure" the thievery skill.

I get what you're saying, but they do have to find a balance between gameplay and realism. Also dont give up on lockpicking, the best loot is behind locked doors hehe, or you could just get the jump on people exiting bunkers! Thanks for watching bud!

Great explanation. I didn't realise that the killbox locks were so much harder, went there with no lockpicking skill, crafted lockpicks, unsurprisingly didn't pick a single lock then died and lost all of my gear 😂😭

Great video, very helpful. I know it's a minigame, and therefore not really realistic, but the mechanic in games that says lockpicks break after a few uses or failed attempts at lockpicking is absurd. I pick locks as a hobby and none of my picks has ever broken, even in the beginning when I was using crappy picks and didn't know what I was doing. Let's hope this moronic misconception disappears from gaming soon. The timer is also utterly pointless. Locks don't have timers.

@@HankiboyGaming But if the locks were realistic, they would be harder! In scum you have 1 sweet spot. In real life you have a sweet spot in the pin crossed with a sweet spot on the turning tool. Now multiply that by the number of pins, and if you fail the sweet spot on the turning tool you can unset pins you had set before. The point is, lockpicking in real life is a patience game. In scum is a game of getting luck with the starting position matching the sweet spot.

2 days of playing i found 6 screwdrivers, the shit ones wasted them all on those weapon lockers that are locked for some reason when they are empty, dunno how many i opened but i ended up with an m9 magainze, hahaa developers really know how to make their game fun and enjoyable

Oh sorry, did not see the prefab part. You can use a crowbar, it will damage some loot inside the locker and it takes a while.

guys this was not meant as an offense. if you have read it like that i am sorry about. in my opinion it is very important to have high fps so your F key responsetime is as high as possible. you will have much more success when you "wiggle" the lock and get a feeling for the F key. it is all about the muscle memory. you need to let the lockpick touch as slightly as possible and then reposition it otherwise you are not able to see if you are doing it right or not. so if you do not have a very good hardware lowering your render resolution is a must do. Also to play with low DPI is a must do as well to get success to the Last degrees of the Lock.
