Love this track!! Fun to play the C dorian but with a Db instead of D natural. Like upper leading tone of some kind. Who knows? Sounds cool.

That's interesting. That would give it like a phrygian feel. Technically I guess you could do that!! Very cool. Thanks for pointing that out.

That's dorian flat 2 out of melodic minor.

So the yellow frames c dorian but what’s the green there for? What’s the significance of A locrian?
@colined6 жыл бұрын
c dorian does not have a Gb but just G.
@PettiMusicStudios6 жыл бұрын
It's a blues note. Make the c Dorian scale bluesy. Totally optional

Sorry you're right as it is the blue note on the c minor pentatonic, but for some reason I did not see the G note was there as well.

And for you it is.....?

@@PettiMusicStudios A minor scale with the major 6th. This comes out diminished if you intend to use the major 6th along with the diminished 5th with varying results, use the pentatonic at it works, think it as dorian and it doesn't. It's probably the bass throwing it off that much I'd prefer thinking it as superlocrian actually.

@@tomfox810 Are you suggesting a super Locrian scale be played over this? Because C Supe sounds like ass. There's no E anywhere in this, as far as I can tell. C minor pentatonic is a fine suggestion, but I like the tasty jams you can string together by including C dorian and C blues scale. I think you're either too far into the books, or you just like whack-ass harmony. Which is fine, lots of interesting stuff gets created that way. Just not by slapping C super Locrian on this particular track. Unless you're not looking to sell records and/or entertain fans.

@@rafetizer if anything i'd probably go for B superlocrian no 4th (F) on a Cmin7 to create tension for a resolution while retaining the dorian intervals with a maj6th and an added maj7th of C melodic minor, C superlocrian wouldn't work. The point was more on the cboice of a diminished 5th in the harmony as a strong statement that limits dorian sound and solutions, and options. But still you can go beebop with hybrid pentatonic scales.
