Nothing to do: the Famo has always been my favourite half-track due to it's massive size and very good off road capability. Without any doubt it required intensive maintaining such as requiring grease for each single track and must have been a real gas hog! Nevertheless I wouldn't mind at all to have one in my garage!!

Not done the Tamia one but probably half a dozen Airfix and a coyple of Hasegawa ones. Still got a built Airfix one on my shelf that I put on an old Matchbox base. That one was at the Telford show a couple of years ago.

It needs an 88mm to tow. Now I need to watch “The Dirty Dozen” again.😎
@paoloviti6156
@paoloviti6156 4 жыл бұрын
The Sd.Kfz 9 Famo was rarely used to tow the 88mm cannon because it was almost exclusively used to recover disabled tanks due to it's limited production and cost, unless it was installed a crane and assigned to the maintenance units. Of course it was needed even 4 or even 5 Sd.Kfz 9 to tow an disabled beast like the Elefant weighing around 65 metric tons stuck in the mud. For your info "The Dirty Dozen" used the Sd.Kfz 8 that was correct to tow heavy cannons and the 88mm cannon...l

@@paoloviti6156 The Sdkfz.9 was also the only vehicle specifically designated to tow the 12.8cm Flak 40.

@@T-10M correct but it was also used as a recovery vehicle with its massive trailer. It was adequate during the Blitzkrieg but needed help with other Famo to recover the big "Cats". It is my favourite "half-track"....

Shifting Gears in that thing would be a challenge, as well as cranking on that big steering wheel. I sure would like to have it on my Farm here in the USA.

No power steering???
@markfryer9880
@markfryer9880 7 жыл бұрын
Power steering was very rare and expensive in those days, so a light ratio on the steering wheel and plenty of muscle was the order of the day.

Steering was typical complex German engineering - initially just the front tires would angle, but turning the steering wheel hard would cause the inside track to slip and slow down.
