I'm getting this as my starter scope just because of this video. Thank you so much! :)

Thanks for the review. I've been comparing detailed pictures of this Swift and the Amscope SE400-Z and they're EXACTLY the same except this one has 2 LED lights. Price difference on Amazon Germany is almost €50 in favor of the Swift so I'm definitely going to choose the Swift.

It's not bad at all. I just bought a trinocular but it's quite bulky, so I quite like this for the compactness. Thanks John

I enjoyed the video. One question though, how do you fit the camera inside the eyepiece ?

Nice and compact, looks good for electronics work. Assume there a power switch on the back for the lights?
@sdgelectronics5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's an integrated IEC connector with fuse and switch. Seems to work well.

@@sdgelectronics BTW, you forgot to mention that the objective can be swapped as well. It is on a rather special dovetail mount that slides out when you release a tiny set screw. I have this microscope with a slightly different stand (has a halogen light instead of the two goosenecks) and rebranded as Amscope. You can actually get 0.5x objective to reduce the magnification and have more working distance - I commonly use 0.5x objective + 10x eye pieces for 5x mag when soldering to have a larger field of view.

Thanks Steve! The ring-lights are a pain in the neck sometimes!

I'm tempted to try a ring light with a polarising ring
@robertcalkjr.83255 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what that is. The ring-light is only a pain to me when images have shiny silver in them. I can sometimes angle the observed object or cover the problem area up with something and get a clearer image, but it wastes time doing that.

Would a 30,5mm eyepiece fit? I'm thinking of getting also a 5x and 15x from aliexpress

I know what you're saying, unfortunately this is one of the lowest cost stereo microscopes for this application.
@PapasDino5 жыл бұрын
YT isn't displaying comments here for some reason so hopefully I'm not repeating others thoughts. For about $100 more you can get a trinocular that includes a Barlow extender which gives you a much greater working distance. IF you're thinking about a trinocular be careful because some actually sacrifice one of the optical paths when you engage the camera so make sure the one you're getting allows you to use the camera AND the lens simultaneously; a friend found that out the hard way! Thanks for sharing Steve, that's actually a pretty good deal.
@sdgelectronics5 жыл бұрын
Just for reference, the working distance is 220mm at 10x and 20x, so actually very workable. I forgot to mention in the video. Yes, the switchable trinocular seems a real cost cutting exercise for the same of one more piece of optics. Thanks Dino.
@Flamenawer2 жыл бұрын
I got it with £30 discount in Amazon, is in promotion now, but I added extra 0.5x objective which gives even better 5x, better than 10x than is already a little high for general soldering. The depth of field should be better and I know the distance don't change , wich is massive and super important. I really dont understand why someone would want other microscope for soldering, is perfect with the 0.5x (£50) If you got tired or want inspection with camera, you can. Even you can add a acrion camera with wifi and record 4k. Stereo and recording is still absolutely possible with you can make a camera attachment and print it.... Buy other thing more expensive and get something with less distance as the SM series and twice as bulkier and twice the price have no sense.

@@sdgelectronics - I would agree about the quality of the optics. I haven't looked at the specs to see if there is a camera port accessory available for this model, or indeed, whether another one in the range supports this. Will investigate further and thanks again, Steve

@@The.Doctor.Venkman from what I saw, once you need a camera port you're talking about the larger microscope heads.
