SDG&E proposes adding flat fee to utility bills

this move is 100% a way to come after solar owners that recently failed. They wanted to do a tax for solar customers based upon the size of the system you owned, but that failed. So, instead lets just apply the same tax to those in upper income brackets instead.... which is also those same solar owners. This is absolute garbage. Imagine if the price you paid to get into a movie, the price you paid in a restaurant, the price you paid for a car, and imagine the price you paid for shrimp at the grocery store all was determined by your income level. If you are over 180k a year, you pay double what someone making 50k a year makes. We truly are headed to wards a socialist society. This is unbelievable.

The Vice President of SDG&E almost accidentally said it would lower overall electricity costs for everyone but caught himself, knowing that this is just another cash grab for charging the most onerous rates for any utility company in the nation.

@@rbrtck it is not... if you are low income, you make out like a bandit. If you are middle income, you will probably break about even... if you are upper middle class, you are getting screwed.....if you own solar, you are getting bent over with no lube. This is all about going after solar owners . They wanted to tax us... they couldnt get it done. In San Diego do renters own solar? No, home owners do. Do you think the vast majority of home owners in San Diego are over that 180k income???? Hell yes. I currently pay $30 per month flat fee to be connected to the grid.... thats it. I pay zero the rest of the year due to my solar panels. If I get a 140 dollar a month fee added...... just to subsidize the poor? My local legislator better know now he will be gone as he voted for this.

@@reid1boys Absolutely. This was going to be part of NEM 3.0, except it was removed before the CPUC (who are not our friends, either, of course) approved it. So the utilities got their dirty politicians to do their dirty work against solar owners for them, and force it down everyone's throat with a law. The question now is whether the ridiculous flat fees being proposed will stand as they are or be substantially reduced. The utilities' own argument that many other types of utilities such as water commonly charge flat fees actually suggests that the flat fees should be much lower. It all depends on how much of a transfer of wealth (i.e. government theft) "equity" 🙄 demands, according to the CPUC.
