And don't forget the eye watering fees that the auction houses charge to buy at auction, now nearing 4%. It's not surprising many recent auctions have hundreds of unsold lots.

If you ask me the Title needs editing SDLT hurts rents and rental supply everywhere!! Unless you are implying that some landlords don't pass on the costs.

I stopped buying the moment the surcharge came in. Also, section 24 most definitely made further investments in the UK market pointless.

Ranjan and Andrew needs to get their numbers right: 3% of £250,000 is £7,5000 not £700 and I think Ranjan meant Norman Osborns 3% surcharge generated £2.6 billion not £2.6million pounds in tax. Ho hum!

2 of you keep failing to understand that If landlords stopped being landlords people would just buy cheap houses that they can't afford and resort into rending. SDLT for landlords should be 30%. Maybe Rachel Reeves will whip you once and for all into logic.

Great comment. Also with cheap housing people would spend more in the economy. It's so obvious property hoarding has squeezed the life out of this country.
