Emotional argument, Sid needs to retire a Pen. Logical argument, the haul of picks and prospects you could get for the core players would drastically accelerate the rebuild.
@kurtwpg3 ай бұрын
True, however. It's likely you don't get full value for Sid because he's not going to leave Pittsburgh except to go exactly where he wants. There's an off chance he loves the franchise so much he goes to the best offer at the deadline just to help them, then makes his long term plan after that.
@jordanstapleton31803 ай бұрын
@@kurtwpg Good point. It's obviously easier said than done. They should at least explore the idea of trading Malkin this year. Rebuild is about two years away at most.

No, Crosby doesn’t need to leave. Canadian media needs to pump the brakes on this whole narrative.
@christhornycroft36863 ай бұрын
What does the Canadian media have to do with anything? Canada hasn't won a Cup since 1993. If he's leaving Pittsburgh, he's staying in the US, because that's where he's got a chance to win another one before he retires. He's not coming to Canada, so I don't know what you're talking about. The discussion is whether or not he wants to win another Stanley Cup and given the fact that the Penguins are rebuilding, it's highly unlikely he's winning another one there. If he does, he's going to another American team. SDPN isn't the media. They're sports commentators. There is a difference. The media is supposed to provide information. Commentators might rehash information, but they're starting their discussions assuming you know a little bit about what's going on and they provide perspective. That's the way it's always been and if people have gotten soft and don't like that anymore, tough. Being from Vancouver, I remember a guy named Neil MacRae, who made Don Cherry look like Mother Theresa. If someone like him were in media today, the internet would implode. I miss the 90s.

I don’t think there’s any chance at all Sid leave the Pens. Ottawa and Buffalo both share the difficulty that they are trying to break into the top half of their division while that top half is the very upper echelon of the league. Since the 2018-19 season Atlantic division teams have won 4 of 6 president's trophies, have the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th most points over that span, and have 7 stanley cup final appearances (only reason that is possible is due to the candian division year where 2 Atlantic teams made it). The path to relevance is difficult when 4 of the best 6 teams in the league are standing in your way.

To be completely objective and rational, he SHOULD leave the Pens and let them get the moon for him. But it's incredibly likely Sid won't ever leave Pittsburgh. He is the Penguins and the Penguins are Crosby's team. The moment he retires he'll become an AC or player development consultant or something like that for the team. But we can never say never. Brodeur left the Devils (and it felt SO wrong all along), Modano left the Stars, Alfie left the Sens, Iggy left Calgary... all guys you would have said at the stage Sid is at, that would never leave their teams. IF he plays one year or two with another team tho, it's Colorado with Mack (he always said he'd love to play with him) or Montreal to complete his childhood dream. There's really no other choice.

Crosby has all his hardware, I doubt he goes anywhere. He's not Ray Borque. Is he really going to ditch his C and 1C spot to go play 2C on a contender to maaaaaybe have a shot at a 4th cup? Is he going to sign for dirt cheap? Seems like a stretch.

In regards to Crosby moving. I think you guys are delusional. He had to talk Malkin into resigning. And I'm sure he and Letang had a conversation before he resigned. And what now? He's just going to leave them? It doesn't seem like a move that a leader like Crosby would make. He has three cups. I just don't see him leaving his two teammates of almost twenty years behind like that. I may be wrong. But, I just don't see it. What I do understand is putting this as a thumbnail grab and really only spending eight minutes on it. I get it. But I disagree.
