SDRplay introduces the new RSP1B - an enhanced version of the popular RSP1A. Compared to an RSP1A, it comes in a metal case and has enhanced noise performance in some parts of the spectrum.
See www.sdrplay.com/rsp1B for details
This is one of many videos from SDRplay - makers of the RSP family of SDR radios. See the full list of SDRplay videos and applications documents on: www.sdrplay.com/apps-catalogue/
The RSP family of SDRs from SDRplay cover 1kHz to 2 GHz with no gaps and give up to 10MHz spectrum visibility.
SDRplay is a UK company. The RSP SDR receivers are made in the UK and can be purchased for worldwide delivery directly from www.sdrplay.com/ (click on purchase and select your country to view shipping costs) or you can buy from any of our worldwide resellers listed here: www.sdrplay.com/distributors/ Many of the resellers offer local free shipping and/or local language technical support.

This upgrade brings the RSP1B in line with RSPdx and RSPduo in terms of enhanced low noise performance. I was worried that my RSPdx would underperform the new RSP1B, but John showed a table where you can check that it is not the case. In fact, in this regard the RSP1B, RSPdx and RSPduo outperform the RSP1A.

Great to see some improved noise floor hardware coming out and hope to see something more being done with diversity on the Duo Likely not the place to ask but I have 2 RSPDUO and was wondering if there is any software out there that would combine them for increased bandwidth. I'm assuming the software would have to offset them and they'd have to be in sync.

Thanks for the feedback. Noted. Not aware of any software for combining 2 RSPduos. There was this approach taken by a university using Matlab and multiple RSP2 devices some years ago: www.sdrplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Time-and-phase-synchronization-with-two-RSP2s.pdf

😃interesting product for those who are just starting out but don't want compromises, certainly better than some cheaper products where you need to add a lot of external filters with lots of losses to make them work, if it were also Android compatible it would be perfect. We would also need something to go full range TX up to 2.4 Ghz for QO100, and with an ethernet interface!

Using either SDRuno or SDRconnect, it fully supports SSB (USB and LSB), CW, AM, FM, wideband stereo FM and so on. You can also adjust the filter widths as well. This video introduces SDRconnect which runs on windows, MacOS (both ARM and Intel architectures), Linux and Linux/Raspberry Pi. This independent video talks through the SDRconnect features: kzbin.info/www/bejne/inSsaJ6dh95_aq8si=kfQp9aP_HcJYeNup

Congratulations to SDRplay engineering, but...why do I have to feel sad for being an FMDX fan?. Fans of listening to HF, UHF, even 50 mhz are in luck, but FMDX dxers?. When will an economical SDR but with a good tipical noise figure for 100 MHz come on the market?. I tell the SDRplay team to remember us too...regards

We stopped making the RSP1 in 2017. The RSP1 was our first product and had a much lower spec in many respects. It was more expensive and initially relied on 3rd party software for the spectrum display and waterfall: web.archive.org/web/20150214090122/www.sdrplay.com/

@SDRplayRSP
@SDRplayRSP 5 ай бұрын
The key reasons to move to USB-C are for increased power and speed. USB-A/B is adequate for our design and so the lower cost and extra ruggedness of the USB-A/B combination was chosen. More on the tradeoffs in this article: www.usbmemorydirect.com/blog/usb-a-vs-usb-c/

Are you still using the ridiculous MIRICS MSi001 and MSi2500 TV tuner circuitry used in previous SDR Play series receivers or are you finally going to make an SDR that also receives better than a regular SDR dongle from China? Thank you for answer.

@@DrFod why would i be a donkey if you have this garbage, and you understand electrical engineering, then see for yourself what's inside, and even better, compare it with some real sdr and not bastle from TV circuits that this company uses from the beginning, still the same. Do you have such technical knowledge and capabilities? If not, please don't comment on something you don't understand. Even the SDRDX product that I had on the table in front of me contains these circuits 🙈 I don't know what DX is on it, but it's worth a few dollars and the only thing it compares to is an SDR key fob from China, that's unfortunately true.

Not sure where you're coming from with this. I have a fully equipped RF lab and decades of experience and find after testing here that the SDRPlay receivers perform to well within their advertised specifications and offer performance levels which are perfectly adequate for most applications. Further, the ARRL testing lab disagrees with you as do many other documented tests and reviews. And these radios are indeed miles above the typical $20 dongle in performance. If you don't like these receivers, fine. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and no receiver made will ever be all things to all people. Stay with the Airspy if it works as you desire. If you hate your RSPdx so much then sell or give it away to somebody else who will use & appreciate it. There are a lot of choices these days.

The main difference is the metal box instead of plastic followed by enhanced noise performance with the RSP1B. We are trying to move away from plastic for environmental reasons. The RSPA remains our lowest cost option and is typically more like $20 cheaper (today's Ham Radio Outlet pricing)

@@obelustheodd I can understand your thinking on this but the RSP1A is a great receiver and you wouldn't gain anything by buying the RSP1B except the metal case unless VLF frequency performance is important to you. So don't worry, ya done good! ;)

We make decisions on product design year by year. It's always a trade-off between ideal choices and cost/availability of materials. We used to put the RSPs into clear plastic packaging for example. Over time we migrated to cardboard box designs. But even with this relatively easy transition, it didn't happen overnight. Meanwhile, the case design is an integral part of the product , and once a design is complete, it must go for qualification testing by an external body (part of the requirements necessary to enable the various product certification standards to be met). This a costly process which takes a lot longer. All we have done is to add another choice for people - a choice which is indeed a more environmentally friendly option. The RSP1A is still the best low-cost choice for anyone wanting a well-supported general coverage receiver which in most circumstances performs as well as a more conventional communications radio. Yes, there are performance advantages in the RSP1B (the noticeable improvements over the RSP1A with its improved noise performance below 1MHz and in the 3.5-5.5MHz, 50-60 MHz and 250-320MHz ranges) - and these may be important to some people but not everyone. So the low cost RSP1A will continue as an option while we still have stock of the plastic cases.@@obelustheodd
