Today, I have sE Electronics sE7 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone in the studio for review! This little mic was suggested for me to review by the channel "Cool School". In this video I test out the sE7's instrument capabilities with an electric guitar and acoustic guitar test, but I also wanted to see if this mic could be good for podcasting (which Cool School brought to my attention). I run this mic through the usual tests! Check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
NOTES: When I talk about the noise floor is, in fact, a dBa measurement rather than just dB. If you want a video that explains the difference I explain it at 2:07 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6C8pZKirtdmoLM

I'm a big fan of this mic. Just used it yesterday on tuba and vocal recordings. Very natural, very affordable and very low noise. Good review, sir! Edit: For those wondering, I recorded vocals by booming it over the singer, facing down towards their chest. Then they sang looking forward, not up towards the microphone. No plosives.

Thanks for the video! really useful, it would be nice to compare it to the sE X1a, which one is more versatile? does the extra 0.15" of the X1a capsule and circuitry make a noticeable difference?

I've been trying to decide between this mic and the Oktava MC 012-01. Any thoughts on that? (Nice review here! The sE7 sounds great!) We were looking in particular to use it to mic oboe for live streaming/recording, and had heard the Oktava might have a warmer sound.

I've used a matched pair of these as drum overheads for over a year now in my practice room studio. I used the t. bone sc 1100 in the X/Y configuration before, but they're pretty heavy and need separate stands. (Now I can use one of them as a room mic and the other for vocals at home.)

I love small diaphragm condenser mics, in my opinion they actually do a pretty decent job with the noise rejection, I actually prefer them and dynamic mics more than large diaphragm condenser.

Great video may I ask what would you recommend as a microphone that is sort of two to three feet away for that off camera KZbin look. I was considering these as a matched pair just out of shot to my left and righ but the sound test from a few feet away wasn't very nice 😭

I'm thinking about getting a matched pair of these to record my upright piano. I want to use it on my zoom H6. I'd love to hear suggestions if you think there is a better option in the same price range. Thanks for taking the time to review this mic!

Curious if anybody used the Dynamic V7 vs this Condenser sE7 for per vocals? I know that if you have tons of background noise than the Dynamic mic would be better but let's say that's not a issue then for quality accurate vocals for long meetings, streaming, and/or to podcasting which of the two would you say is better? What slight differences do they display from each other?

Hello, Audio Hotline! I like your channel. Your rewiews are funny and at the same time very useful. Compare handheld condensers with small diaphragm condensers! sE7 versus Rode M2 or something like that. It will be A+ )))))))

I don't know if anyone is still around, and i don't know if someone can answer my question, but is there a big difference from the sE7 to the sE8, or is the sE8 not worth the money compared to the less expensive sE7 when it comes to what you reviewed in this video?
@AudioHotline
@AudioHotline 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the main difference is that the sE7 is an Electret Condenser mic and the sE8 is a true condenser. Since the capsules are different the specs are pretty differently too. Also, I believe the sE8 has an additional pad and high pass filter option. I created a comparison page on B&H for you to check out! Link: bhpho.to/3uwYJ6Q

Maybe in a pair for gang vocals or a choir, but I think there are better options out there for solo singer/rappers at this price point.

SE Electronics make a beautiful little shotgun mic called the Laser pro. They stopped making it but some shops in the UK still sell them at £49.95 It is a really good mic and I prefer it to the Rode Vodeomic Pro+. It’s way flatter. The company make some great mics.

It’s an on camera shotgun. I like it a lot and bought two! (In case one gets mangled) I did a very amateurish video on it. It was so dark in UK, I tried to use a green screen and looked awful! kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2XFZIeij6d0oJI www.scan.co.uk/products/se-electronics-promic-laser-dslr-on-camera-shotgun-microphone-electret-condenser-supercardioid-patte?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI353dzv-P5gIVzo2yCh2Q1wDcEAkYASABEgIIy_D_BwE

"Peter Piper picked a patch of pickled" - uh, what? Seriously though, does it need extra power to use on a mixer? I have a tiny condenser mic, but it doesn't sound when I plug it into the mixer, even when the volume on the mixer for the mic channel is turned up to full.

I like this mic's sound, I think it sounded better before processing in fact. I could see recording some VO stuff with it where super low noise isn't the highest priority. Plosives are utterly ridiculous; I'd definitely require one of those mini pop filters for this. 99 bux is a bit pricey for a mic I'm just going to experiment with tho. Now I'm curious about what a cheap but supposedly good pencil mic like the ISK Pearl sounds like for voice. I LOVE THE KING BEE SO MUCH AND YOU HAVE TO TRY IT ITS ONLY 99 BUX AND IT IS THE BEST VALUE ON THE MARKET BY A HUGE MARGIN EVEN THO THEIR USB MICS ARE TRASH

Yes the H6's XYH6 mics are absolute trash with P D F and S and out right wind. For anything air like that they freekin suck. Which is too bad cause I love the brightness to them. Almost Rode NT1-A brightness.
