One of the Rodelinda's arias from the opera "Rodelinda" by the greastest : Haendel himself. An absolute masterpiece. Rodelinda is the wife of Bertarido, king of Longobardi, defeated by Grimoalo who has taken his throne. Bertarido had to flee while his wife and his son Flavio are kept by Grimoaldo, prisoners in the king's castle. At the moment of this aria, Rodelinda thinks that her dear husband is dead. Grimoaldo tries to marry her, and as she refuses, he threatens her to kill her little boy. So, she sings : If my pain is not strong enough to kill me, who will come and, by pity, will pierce my heart ! The whole opera is at the same level (musically, dramatically and psychologically. My favorite opera with Cosi by Mozart. Kind regards
