Of all the songs that I heard yesterday in Antwerp (including the songs by the lads), this one seems to be my earworm the day after... So beautiful sir, extremely adequate opener, and an even kinder man, getting the chance to talk with you afterwards :)

Sean, what instrument is this - a mandolin? Or something else? Really love this style of music and have considered learning one, but don’t know if it’s better to start with a simpler instrument. What would you say?
@SeanDagher2 ай бұрын
This is an Irish bouzouki. It is basically a tenor mandolin. There are a few common tunings, most of which are similar to one octave below a mandolin/violin. It is common in many European folk music groups starting about 50 years ago. I find it easier that guitar because of my string-playing background, but not everyone would agree that it's simpler. If you tune it open, (gdgd or adad) it can be simpler. There is also something called a Merlin, which has diatonic frets. That simplifies things a lot.
