Such a beautiful old soul. I met Kate thru her soon to be husband Don Coffin in 1971. Don and I had a music class together at Sonoma State College. He invited me to his beautiful Victorian house he shared with Kate in Sebastopol one night to jam. We sat in her kitchen by the old wood stove and sang and sang till the wee hours of the morning. I went back often to sing and play with her and Don. I treasure those moments. She was only 29 then but this was not her first time on the planet. I was mesmerized by her presence. One night I was at one of her gigs and she asked me up on stage to join her in a couple of songs we used to play on those nights in her kitchen. I will forever be grateful for that experience. She was just a struggling singer/songwriter in those days, but I'm so happy she broke thru to the public and became a success. Her star will forever shine bright in the Universe. RIP Sweet Kate.

I heard this song once before back around 1986 and it’s lyrics appealed to me instantly but I never heard it since I guess it was played at the time Kate passed away RIP but by chance It came up in You Tube mix and I can’t stop playing it all week. Kate must have been a woman who was soaking in love kindness caring and romance. I also learned she’s left this world far too soon back in December 10/1986 this brings me to tears every time I hear her sing this wonderful song. November 4, 2021 marks a special day in my life. It is the day I first knew of Kate Wolf and heard her sing. The date also marks the day of this...my very first KZbin post. How I came across this "Kate Wolf-Green Eyes" KZbin video is a complete mystery; the video just appeared in the right-hand column of up-coming videos...was listened to...and DESERVED comment. I am now very conflicted. Since my early days of college in the 1960s, Joan Baez has always been my favorite female folk singer...especially Joan singing Bob Dylan songs. And then, today, for the very first time, I heard Kate Wolf sing "Green Eyes" with the voice of an angel. WOW! What a voice! So calming. So beautiful.

Had the pleasure and privilege of seeing her perform at Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA, way back in the day (early/middle 80s). So it was just before her tragic death in 1986. My friend and I went up to the stage after her performance to thank her for her music. She then graciously signed the album we had just bought. She told my friend, "Oh, you have such beautiful earrings!" My friend promptly took them off and gave them to Kate. Kate didn't want to accept them saying, "Oh, they are much too beautiful to give away." My friend said, "It's a small exchange for all the pleasure you've brought me with your music. Please. Take them. It would make me so happy." Kate smiled beautifully and put the earrings on there and then. A precious memory!

❤ Every night we light the candle That stands beside our bed But sometimes the flame's too much to handle That's what you said That's what you said And you should know Because you built a fire in me and you made it burn You followed me watching every move Matching every turn Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing They hold me like the sun going down Warm me like a fire in the night Without a sound You were waiting till I heard Just as patient as that love light in your eyes You never threw away a word Or ever talked in a disguise I ought to know You were a beacon to a sailor lost at sea I saw it in your eyes when you looked at me So openly Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing They hold me like the sun going down Warm me like a fire in the night Without a sound The first time I ever saw your laughter Break loose inside and tumble out to me My heart knew it had found what it was after And it came so easily We should know After all the years of the hard and heavy times Now, our days go by like best friends' story lines Yours and mine Your green eyes, they don't miss a thing They hold me like the sun going down Warm me like a fire in the night Without a sound Without a sound

Sad for me. I just discovered Kate Wolf today, and found out immediately that she is no longer with us. Same thing happened to last year with me with Eva Cassidy. Never knew about either of them, fell in love with their voices and arrangements and then ... gone! Weird. Thanks to Kennethrm3 for posting this!

A voice like Eva's comes along once a generation. Maybe. If w're lucky. The record industry completely missed the boat with Eva. She was not easily 'categorized' (too eclectic), so they never picked her up. Wht a goddamn shocking waste, no....?

It astonishes me, as a very recent inductee to Kate's music, that she is not better known, certainly here in the U.K.. I have been searching for anything I can find and have even identified and purchased 5 Vinyl L.P's, there is comparatively little available this side of the water. I have made it my mission to get her a little better known here to the extent that I sang Green Eyes at my Folk club last night with the endorsement that my fellow club members check out how it sounds when sung by an Angels voice. She has harpooned me and it is a joyful pain. I am looking to attend her Anniversary Concert next January just to be near some of those who will have known her. I guess it is never too late to discover great music.

Hi ,I've been a fan of Emmylou since first seeing her on The Old Grey Whistle Test mid 70s, got all her studio albums since not until 2007 when a box set Songbird Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems came out to celebrate Emmys 60th birthday, one gem was Kate's Love Still Remains, Emmy recorded it for the album Treasures Left Behind. Remembering Kate Wolf , the first I heard of Kate , AJ Lee sings Here in California , she is just 20 a beautiful voice, from Tracy California there are videos of both AJ and Molly Tuttle from Palo Alto on KZbin ,Molly is IBMA guitar player of the year 2017 and 2018

I think she might have had the slight misfortune to become better known in the late '70s around the time punk was surfacing and the baby was thrown out with the bathwater.I was going to folk clubs regularly at the time and knew of her but didn't actually hear her-which is a shame going by what we have here.

This album was recorded live at Austin City Limits in 1985, at the peak of Kate's career, not long before she was diagnosed with the leukemia that took her from us. I was lucky enough to see her at McCabe's in Santa Monica in the early 1980s, and lucky enough that she sang her all-time hit "Give Yourself to Love" and my fave, "The Trumpet Vine." Two warmer songs I never heard. When she passed, Garrison Keillor played her "Give Yourself to Love" and spoke a brief, moving tribute to her that left no eyes dry.

Kate Wolf has been an enigma for me...everytime I find something I havent heard by her before it resonates for me in a way only one other artist ever has...I dont know how to give higher praise than that. Her music always touches me, nearly always moves me...another great loss of talent to the perils that life presents. Her appearance in my life at opportune moments speaks to a greater plan I dont understand or crazy happenstance. I have to wonder by what logic many others were allowed to live (myself included) and she was taken so early. Clearly a mystery and tragedy of chance or an act of a god I dont understand. But in spite of the confusion about her, I am absolutely soul bound to her music in a way that is in itself incomprehensible. And I will accept that and be grateful for it.

It's sad that such artists as Kate Wolf and Eva Cassidy died so young. For us younger fans, we've discovered them through there passion that's traveled through time in recordings.
Thank you for bringing up Eva Cassidy. Another angelic voice. She grew up in a Maryland suburb of Washington DC, and was beloved here on the local music scene. She loved her day job in a local greenhouse, & I've always suspected exposure to an agricultural chemical must have figured into her devastating cancer.
