I can't recall ever hearing less enthusiasm for such a profound sports accomplishment. The guy hits 4 home runs in a row, and all Hawk Harrelson can say as the last one is on the way is, "I don't think that's going to make it". Would love to hear the Mariners' announcer describing the action!

Another forgotten fact is that Cameron robbed a grand slam for the final out in the bottom of the first. It had to have been his greatest all around day as a player. I was there with my dad who passed away the following year. I will never forget that game as long as I live. It was also memorable because my alternator died on the drive home and we had to walk the last mile home around 1 am, but man, did we have some great stuff to talk about.

Why would the announcers get excited, its an AWAY TEAM DOING THIS. Hawk Harrelson works for the White Sox, so why would he-or any announcer-be excited when a player for the other team hits a home run? When the 4th dinger was hit, and history was made, he did get excited though. Not for the home run but because baseball history was made.
@alltheDCteams10 жыл бұрын
jdspreest Hawk isn't an idiot, he does his job well. His job is to call the game and talk about it FROM A WHITE SOX POINT OF VIEW. He shouldn't get excited when the other team does well, no announcer should. Yep MLB, I feel is the only sport at the major league level to show overall sportsmanship continually. Players don't do a dance every time they hit a homerun, or when they turn a double play. At most you get a more theatrical bat toss like Bret Boone's bat flip he used to do. Or the sweetness of the best swing in baseball history that of Ken Griffey Jr. I think it's gotten so ridiculous especially in the NFL. Players perform some stupid dance or pose for the most mundane of actions, wow you tackled the guy after gaining two yards this calls for a celebration. I still like watching football, and to be fair it's a totally different type of sport with high energy as opposed to baseball's more even pace. I actually backed up the clip just to watch the White Sox fans who went from sitting to standing ovation for Cameron. Showing respect to an opponent's player for accomplishing a feat few have been able too. Only 16 times in MLB history and this is tracing back into the late 1800's. It's only happened 4 times since Cameron did it here in 2002. Good stuff, great player, great fans.

Look at all the home sox fans stand up and applaud after Cameron hit the 4th homerun. Anyone who follows baseball should know that this was an impressive accomplishment regardless of what team you root for. Instead the announcer says "I dont know if he got enough of it" in the most mono tone voice. and then when it leaves the yard he continues to pout and shows little to no appreciation. What a classless homer.

@Isidorios3 жыл бұрын
"Only" 3 were off of Parque, the first was off of Rauch, who gave up 5 runs in 1/3 of an inning. And Manuel was at that point waving the white flag and just trying to eat up innings to get the game over, as he couldn't see coming back. Parque was in until his pitch count came up, regardless of how well or how poor he did. Not saying that's a good strategy, but you see managers do it to "save" the bullpen.

Griffey for Cameron, Tomko, Perez and a minor leaguer in 2000 goes down as one of the worst trades of the first decade of the 2000s. At the time I thought the Reds got a steal. They basically gave up one good player in Cameron for The Kid who was on track to go down as one of the most iconic players to ever play the game. But an assortment of injuries and other factors more or less ruined Griff's career almost immediately in Cincinnati. And he crippled the entire franchise for nearly ten years with his contract. Cameron on the other hand joined a great ball club who a year later won the most games in history. And the trade pushed him into the spotlight. In Chicago and Cincinnati he was just another guy. He became a team leader in Seattle. And he became arguably the best defensive CFer in the game. A title Griffey carried for years. And Cameron's all out hustle and energy and his bat equaled or surpassed Griffey's each year until he left Seattle. Tomko did nothing in Seattle. Perez had a little hype as a mid level prospect when Seattle got him. But Cameron and the M's were hands down the winner of the deal.
