I did exactly the way you explained to wire it but I hooked the red wire up to the ground which works great but I did notice when you hold the button too long it puts too much of a load on the mpem and Pops the 5 amp fuse which kills all power to the ski my fix for that was to run the purple lead off the relay straight to the hot side of the solenoid and cover up the old purple wire it's not needed with this relay the ski still works just like it did from Factory too

When I was hooking this relay up it was new to me I played with the Wires for a while and this is what worked.. I do have the issue with popping that fuse i’ve just learned to not go too far.. I plan to get back into there soon and try some of the things I’ve learned in the comment section.. I will probably make a follow up video with what works best.. thank you for your comment I will definitely try running the wires the way you did.. with the way you did it instead of popping that fuse what does it do? I’ve learned from factory the relay just clicks and stops when it gets to the top or bottom and feels the Load.. is that what the 451m does wired the way you did it? I think I will try to pin your comment and put it at the top so other people see it until I can update this video.. thanks again..

@@OneLove7161 I have mine wired the way you wired your blue and green wires but I crimped my brown white and red together to ground and I wired the purple to the red wire that was used with the old setup it doesn't shut down maxed out but it no longer blows the fuse to the whole unit and even if I let it click it doesn't blow any fuses not even the 15 it comes with definitely saves the trouble of having to access the box out on the water when you over do it

The trim is the only thing that doesn't work after I rebuilt the motor on my seadoo. So I wired the relay in the way you did in the video but am just piggybacking the relay into the old cdi box. It works but I'm hoping if the fuse goes on the new relay I won't lose power to the jet ski. This video was really helpful so thanks for spending the time to make it. I spent about 6hrs from start to finish on this job.

Thanks for posting this. I just diagnosed a bad VTS module and will try this work around. I just want to mention that there is a risk with this method of stripping the gears that drive the VTS cable. The OEM board has a current sensor to remove power from the VTS motor when the nozzle reaches the limit of its mechanical travel. This is to keep the gears from stripping. Based on the comments below of blown fuses when holding the button too long, I suspect the 451m does not have a current sensor. As long as you don't hold the button down after the nozzle is fully up or down, the gears should be o.k. I posted a short video on my channel with the wiring diagram and some ideas on how I diagnosed the board. Thanks again. This sure seems better than $155 for another OEM board.

Great video wish I had the answer on the power wire. These videos are a blessing for keeping these old gems out on the water fully functional. Thanks again for the video

Thanks.. yea some one else on here had a theory about grounding.. I kinda gave up on an answer why it works this way because it works lol.. I put a lot of hours on both of these this summer never an issue. trim on both worked great and still good to go.. I’m in Wisconsin so unfortunately season is over just winterized them.. I’m ready for spring.. I love these older seadoos.. no problem I don’t mind taking the time to make videos to help others keep theirs on the water functioning properly..

It's because it's a "neg" pulse system, the motor only works when it's grounded. Pushing up/down grounds that wire and the motor responds. You would think intuitively that it provides power when pushing the button, but it's the exact opposite. It closes the path and grounds when pushing the button.
@retodd42593 жыл бұрын
the vts system is a negative pulse system. Being connected through the "output side" of the starter solenoid is grounding through the starter motor.

I will follow this cause I need to bypass my trim... in regards to your red wire? Sounds like there is a inline diode so power can't travel but only one way if I had to guess?...

Hi, I'm also servicing my VTS system. I have a request: my trim guage is broken. If you have a pair of calipers could you measure the thickness of that little peice that moves and lets you know the trim level? I'm trying to 3d print one. Thanks.

So I have a 96 xp. I thought the engine had to be running for the vts to work? Is that correct?
@scott3890112 жыл бұрын
on that side of the solenoid, you are getting ground feedback from starter motor.

Did you do the video on the fuel gauge?
@OneLove7161 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t but it’s a fairly simple process. You just need to pull that fuel tube out of the tank and JB weld the magnets back on you will be able to see where they fell off from if you have any questions leave a comment on here and I’ll try to help you. I did this fix around the time I posted this video still working great

Oh man I was all excited that I may finally have a fix for my 94 XP. I hookedy 451m relay just as you did here and all that happens every time I try and test the up and down after hitting the start button is the 5amp fuse instantly blows. Any idea why this may be happening?
@OneLove71613 жыл бұрын
Did you test the vts motor? Without looking at it is impossible for me to tell but it sounds like maybe that motor is froze up and when you hit the button it can’t move the motor so it blows the fuse

Just curious do you still recommend the 451m relay? My motor works with power directly to it but won't work off of switch. The fuse is good so I'm assuming the module is bad

Worked great for me no issues since I installed it.. yes most likely the module is bad..
