Good video Thanks for keeping it real Thats a pollack - worth trying a spinner or lure in those slacks and behind the bridge stanstions - especially on the making tide. Looking forward to the next video Cheers!

John, I really enjoyed the video, well presented. You don't know what a relief it is, to witness your efforts. I have had the same experience, battling the tide, and weed, fishing the slack....in my case with no luck. Even so, it is a great mark to fish, easy access and your video will ensure I give it another go.

Pollock by the way. Lovely spot been fishing it for over 20 years great place to take newbies to fishing to show them the basics. Taught my sons there my Mrs and even my granddaughter. You was bang on the spot for wrasse on your first cast only just to the side of bridge support had loads wrasse out but only at high water as current is a bit strong any other time. mackerel rigs work well there too.

When fishing for wrasse I find that holding the rod and striking instantly is the best.

Haha thanks buddy! I always like to get the bites on camera, I end up recording like 3 hours of footage for a 6 minute video and it takes hours to trim down but as you’ve probably seen in all my videos every bite on the float or tap on the rod tip is there hahaha
@WolfricLupus
@WolfricLupus Жыл бұрын
Like the video 🙂need to say, One guy in the comments section said holding the rod and striking instantly is best, this is fine for paternoster/ flapper rigs fishing on the bottom; However I find that for float fishing it helps (in my experience) to let them take the float down for a moment or two so that they can try to swallow the bait, and you get a better hook set. AND when you strike, don't strike like the bionic man trying to wrench the fish out of the water, feel for the pressure and then put on harder pressure suddenly and in a controled manner, rather than simply jerking it back and up, this may just pull it out of their mouths, if you are thinking more and not just reflex jerk action you'll probably get a better hook up rate. When they first first take the bait (by my thinking) they may not have it properly in their mouths, having just snatched it, if you give them a moment they can have a second to readjust their hold and take it properly into their mouths. That's what I think anyway. Always worked well for me down in Portreath, Cornwall in my younger days.

@joedennehy386 Жыл бұрын
He is using a paternoster rig isn't he sinker on the bottom, hook above?. Everyone has thete own ideas I suppose, but in New Zealand we use mainline to swivel. Sinker sliding above swivel, a short 700mm trace with a single recurve hook baited. The sinker anchors it and the bait can move around.

If you're missing bites on the float , make sure there's no dangling bits hanging off the hook ( also check the snood length)

I have left a comment before when you were fishing the breakwater in hollyhead. If you try limpets or other shellfish the bait holds better on the hook. If you combine worm with limpets etc you cant fail. Had many weekends hitting wrasse with a mixed bait on the hook. 8 to 12 inch wrasse all day

Done well off the west side of holly island on holiday a few years ago plenty of wrasse to about 2lb and got absolutely obliterated on heavy gear presumably big pollock,, dont actually know how big the wrasse go there or what else is about,, had no bass tho and put some time in,,,, the marks were South of mackrel point as I can remember,.

Little secret. Mackrell feathers loaded with lug worn catch me the most wrass. Done this last 3 times and killed it. I'm never going back. Smaller type feathers are better with 1oz lead.

Pollack. I've only fished wrasse once in 50 years! Fishing rocks in Cornwall using crab I collected earlier on float gear I had bite after bite and landed a few up to 2lb. I also hooked fish which bent out the 1/0 hooks but didn't land! I also used limpets off the rocks -they were useless!
