Күн бұрын

I've never really float fished off the rocks before so thought I'd take up my mates offer of borrowing one of his floats. He wanted to fish with mackerel baits and I thought I'd give frozen prawns a go. It turned into a battle of the baits, but which one won??

The leader has zero stretch to it kzbin.infoUgkxOnWw4BwVtrW450xWozo3OpVX4931NDw5 which is expected from a wire leader. Can’t test the quality of all the snaps yet but packaging was nice and neat and I couldn’t get anything to happen when I pulled on it.

Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats kzbin.infoUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.

Great video once again, float fishing is very underrated but this proves how effective it can be. I have seen lads out fish others with a float Cod fishing in winter on rough ground, just got to think out of the box sometimes. Just a thought ref your mate using mackerel, his low catch rate may be due to how he presented the bait, I usually use mackerel belly in thin strips to imitate a sand eel . More vids like this please. Tight lines. Steve.

Boiled prawns and shrimps make excellent baits.We used Boiled shrimps to catch flatties and Eels in the river and docks of Hull.Never dreamed of using them off a boat until a trip offshore from Whitby when a lad pulled out a bag of frozen prawns,heads and all,We all had a chuckle to ourselves until he started bagging up on Cod.Have caught plenty off them.My mate pinched some off me and caught a Turbot..I wouldn't mind but It's the one fish I would love to catch!

A little tip when using this float set up.Have a swivel below the foat then set your weight a longer distance from your float than what your hook length is.This will stop your hook length tangling above your float when casting.

I know how deadly prawns are from my carp fishing, just started sea fishing and cant help trying out carp catching techniques. Prawns, mussels and cockles... cant go wrong in my eyes (course or sea) dont spend a fortune on worm, just keep a frozen bag of prawns or mussel in the freezer 👍🏻 the misses wont kick off as much as finding worms with legs and claws in the fridge 🤣

@@SlippyLimpets Go as light as you dare and maybe use an inline bubble float with a 1/0 Aberdeen hook or smaller you don't need big baits but you do need to mask the hook they are easily put off and hard to keep on the hook and if you have a fast drift a couple of split-shots to take down the shrimp usually 6 feet of fluorocarbon (1.83 m) from the float is plenty. Just as a tip, the plastic packets that Prawns 🦐 come in, can be taken to any Tesco or Sainsburys etc and they will put it in their plastic film recycling, which councils won’t take. As anglers, we should all be going out of our way to protect the sea that gives us so much pleasure. They’ll take all plastic bags and film, like the tops off readymeals, which normally end up in the sea or in the countryside. I have a carrier bag on the back of my door, which I fill up each week and then take it back to the greedy shortsighted people that manufactured and profited by it.

Great video, who would have thought frozen prawns would beat mackerel? Got a pack in the bottom of the freezer so off I go.. Can I ask about your filming set up? I guess the GoPro for the action but what about the static shots? Love the content and filming, Thanks for the inspiration and entertainment!
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 4 жыл бұрын
You're right about the gopro but I also use it for audio on my static camera, like a remote mic, I sync the audio up on the computer afterwards. The static camera is actually my old Drift Ghost S which I've had since I started my channel. I have that mounted on a tripod plugged into a power bank and an external mic. Anything else is normally shot on my phone whis is an old Sony xz. Hope this helps? Glad you like the vids and hope the prawns are as good for you as they were for me. Tight Lines👍 🎣

Fish the top half of one of them blochan under your feet mate or livebait a smaller one or even better a joey if you can get it. Not tried it meself but have a mate that is pretty much dedicated to that type of fishing and by gum he catches some ridiculous blochan. It's a size and not a numbers game so not sure I have the patience for it but have to try at least once. Surprised you'd no ballan on the prawn.

I started off using a using a size 2 hook but moved up to a size 1 because the fish were taking the smaller hook quite deep. Depends on the fish in your area but think a 1/0 would be OK. Hope this helps and thanks for your comment.
