The effort you put in with the left-behind camera as you walk on, the drone shots and editing - what a treat. Thanks. Fishlocker is terrific. John brings so much knowledge of marine life, his pot fishing, boat fishing, shore fishing, foraging on the shore and with a snorkel, catch-and-cook etc. I really enjoy your channel, too. Just keep doing what you enjoy.

I've noticed the same with pike off the bank actually, they seem to recover a lot faster if you give them a good headfirst shove. Not quite a torpedo but get their nose to the water and give them a bit of a shove and they kick off right away whereas if you just gently lower them in they take a lot longer to catch their breath and move off. No sport angler wants to have a fish go belly up after releasing

yeah that a belly up fish is worst case scenario! Not seen too many pike angelrs doing it but will remember that if i ever go pike fishing

Incredible perseverance - rewarded with a brilliant little codling - I would love to catch one on a lure. The weeks of unsettled weather have totally buggered up the spring fishing down here on the Holderness. The only relief has come from persistent doggies on the odd calm day.

@DavidTYork3 жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets in the two years I have been fishing it, I have only seen the sea clear (like you get at Eyemouth) once. There is so much clay slurry in the water, anything bigger than the smallest tides keep the colour stirred up. In the winter the water is always coloured with run-off. In the summer it varies from dirty to thick colour depending in sea movement. Look at the Holderness on Google earth, the sea is brown. Which (usually) leads to great fishing. Atlhough the summer species - thornbacks and smoothhounds like the water flat calm - which we have not seen yet this spring. :-(

@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
There's a couple of options, but I like to get the float rigged up but don't tie your hook on, and then I keep casting to the area I'd like to fish, each cast i move the stop knot further and repeat until the float lays flat on the water. This indicatesthat the lead is on the sea bed. Once there, I give two winds of the reel and set the knot to that position. Tie the hook on, bait up and away you go.

Hi Slip... Just curious what boots you wear for clambering around on the rocks?.. Low cut burnt orange ones in this vid...👍🏻 Keep up the great vids

I was using an old pair Scarpa Zodiac shoes in this vid. Tough as old boots, great grip on grass and rock and pretty stiff to help carry the heavy pack.

Nath 100% effort if it were upto me I'd give you way more fish. Some crazy locations you fish. I was willing that that last cast fish to stay on!

Thanks Jon, I'll take them! We're lucky to have such a varied and challenging coastline to fish

Is it possible you can do some saltwater fly fishing,I done some in Bergman Norway and very successful for pollock, heavy sinking line, I think some of the places you visit would yield results
@SlippyLimpets2 жыл бұрын
It's something I've thought about and have the tackle but never given it a go, I'll definitely do some this year. Thanks for your comment👍🎣

@@SlippyLimpets try chartouse and white…it was deadly when I tried it, what I found is you can let the line basically sink all the way down, then strip back quick then stop, great control over a lure, very little snags, a Norwegian guy told me nighttime fishing best, as the really big pollock are not active through the day, the pollock just hit the silhouette of the lure from the bottom, I had double figure fish on my 6 wt, how the rod not snap I don’t not know.thanks

At least if I did it at night, no one else would be see my terrible casting😂 Thanks for the info and hopefully you'll get to see a video at some point 👍🎣

High risk fishing nice cod.. I prefer estuary bridges bottle neck percentages higher on high tide feet on firm ground.. No shadows no noise mix bag of 30-40 fish..

Sounds good mate, we're short of eastuary bridges up here though

Is that Fast Castle? It looks like a mark I tried to fish a few years back after googling it like you did, but it was far too dangerous to get down to and I've never been back since.

That's the one mate

@@SlippyLimpets Well done for tackling it. The time I went we parked in the layby at the cottages and one of the owners came out to ask what we were doing, and didnt believe us when we told her. Its such a difficult mark that nobody really fishes it apparently, and she sees maybe 3-4 people a year. I might give it another go but everything has to be perfect or its a very leg breaky death.

Just as well you didn’t tread on a slippy limpet or else you’d have ended up in the drink. Great footage again and a lot of hard work both physically and editorially went into that! Hopefully you’ll be out making the most of the good conditions?

My search engine nemesis, the good old slipper limpet, that search term has been stealing views from me for years! I've been getting out but finding the fishing pretty tough at the moment but hopefully get back in the flow soon enough though. Hope you're finding some fish 👍🎣

You should do a video on Slipper limpets that way people can’t miss your channel! Yea been a float twice, once during the endless fog but the sea was pretty coloured and it was bloody cold. Sea temperatures were barely above 9c. Second trip the weekend just gone in absolutely glorious weather, warmer seas, good viz but poor tides. A good number of small cod but not much baitfish knocking about. It still feels a month behind. Maybe bigger tides to push the bait in is needed? No bass trips yet but hopefully a night sesh soon. Having a drone makes scouting marks much, much easier lol Cheers

great video thank you! Out of interest, how do you set yr float depth if going fairly deep? Laggy band?
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
Good question! I use sometimes use a laccy band but prefer to use some Power Gum and tie a stopper knot. The Power Gum knot is much smaller and flies through the eyes on the rod without catching too much, unlike the elastic band. Never comes off either

Thats like one of my trips 😁 the 1st mark you went to is like one I have in dorset , its dangerous and you question yourself why am I doing this but it's like a magnet . Personally I fish with barbs because if I've put the effort in I'm having it ! Like you been fishing for years I know how to unhook a fish and release it ! You mentioned John at the fishlocker watched loads of his videos very informative I like your vids too 😁 if I may put my 2 penneth in , ignore negative comments continue being yourself do what you do , your way ....its worth watching ! ..tight lines
@SlippyLimpets3 жыл бұрын
I normally fish singles and leave the barbs in place but taking them off those trebles just makes it easier to unhook fish. Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it! Tight lines!!
