Great episode, how about doing the US' major mining blockade move: Operation Starvation, the massive mining of Japan's internal waterways by air? It was overseen by General Curtis LeMay, and while it was not as spectacular as his wholesale carpet bombing of Japanese cities, it proved a vital strategic operation that was later judged to have been capable of bringing Japan to its knees by itself had it begun earlier.

My father was in the US Coast Guard in ww2 and with the occupation of Japan after the surrender. He told me the Japanese kamikaze launches had engines that were exact copies of the 6 cylinder chrysler engine the guard had on their launches. He also said there were hundreds of kamikaze subs in the harbor....rusting as they had no paint available. Both kamikaze boats and subs were undeployable as the Japanese had no fuel for them. The US subs targeting of Japanese tankers was that crushing.

@@PanzerkampfwagenausfTschechosl Are you blind? those statement imply that radio and wire guidance torpedo's were used before he realised he can have just use man guidance torpedo's. Considering this is a WW2 topic and the latter is predominantly used in later part of WW2, the radio and wire guidance is use in WW2, according to the statement.

@@nogisonoko5409 well than I can say that I am blind. It really just depends on how you look at it and/or if you over analyze it. Some people will think that he said it in a way where he says that they existed but others just take it as if it was just to enhance the humor. After all, it isn’t very funny saying “why use unguided torpedoes when you have man guidance torpedoes” it is funny, but the way he said it makes it funnier.

The Fukuryu seems pretty ridiculous, especially keeping in mind that in the shown scenario they could also just stay at the seafloor and keep throwing these expendable spears at the landing craft instead of dying for hitting one spear. I mean, sure, you might have a higher chance of hitting on that suicide approach but the ability to hit several of these spears and keeping a well-trained elite soldier alive that is also carrying fairly expensive gear seems to be absolutely worth that expense. To me, it honestly just seems like they were hellbent on that entire self-sacrifice deal.
