Great episode, how about doing the US' major mining blockade move: Operation Starvation, the massive mining of Japan's internal waterways by air? It was overseen by General Curtis LeMay, and while it was not as spectacular as his wholesale carpet bombing of Japanese cities, it proved a vital strategic operation that was later judged to have been capable of bringing Japan to its knees by itself had it begun earlier.

The Fukuryu seems pretty ridiculous, especially keeping in mind that in the shown scenario they could also just stay at the seafloor and keep throwing these expendable spears at the landing craft instead of dying for hitting one spear. I mean, sure, you might have a higher chance of hitting on that suicide approach but the ability to hit several of these spears and keeping a well-trained elite soldier alive that is also carrying fairly expensive gear seems to be absolutely worth that expense. To me, it honestly just seems like they were hellbent on that entire self-sacrifice deal.
