After doing the exercises in this video you become almost completely impossible to capsize.
Imagine being confident paddling in rough water. A big steep wave breaks over you, and you’re stable. Because you have your paddle in the perfect place for a secure low brace. And you know it will keep you upright…Most of the time.
Now let's say for whatever reason your low brace fails you. Maybe the wave caught you off guard. You try to stop the capsize but it’s too late. You are going in.
Now imagine that you stay relaxed because you are still in control. You know what to do when your low brace doesn’t work. You already practiced that. You may even be able to keep your head above the water…and keep breathing.
There is a saying that we are all between swims. And I say that doesn’t mean we can’t eliminate the wet exit almost completely.
In the previous videos we covered the balance brace position, and side sculling.
This video is all about how to put all these skills together to make you almost impossible to capsize. In a way that is easy and gentle on your body.
I’m Paulo and this is Dancing With The Sea. It’s for those of us who want more ease and finesse. And less feeling like it’s hard and I don’t feel safe.
The kayak is not a tool to help you conquer. It’s to show you how you belong to nature.
There’s a certain peace of mind that comes when you have confidence.
If you’re someone who goes on expeditions,
Doesn’t it make it more enjoyable?
As you will see there is no hard or awkward movement needed to do this. No need to risk a shoulder injury, or even have to force anything. It’s more like aikido where you just move with the force, instead of resisting it.
I receive a lot of emails from people telling me they wish they had learned this before tearing their shoulder. A lot of those injuries never heal.
As you can probably imagine, these techniques only work when you’re wearing your kayak.
That’s when kayaking goes from trying to control a boat, to moving your body naturally. And the result is a lot more ease and elegance with everything you do in your kayak.
If you want to know how to adjust the fit of your kayak to unlock your agility, just click on the link in the description to sign up for the free mini course I made for you.

After practicing the uncapsize method you will probably be very surprised at how easily you can avoid doing a wet exit. You may feel like capsizing is really no big deal.
It’s not really capsizing anymore.
As you can probably feel, when you move your body naturally there is nothing hard. No forcing anything.
It feels a lot more elegant.
And it’s more enjoyable.
You are just moving your body.
Ofcourse this will only work when you have the right fit with your kayak. If you want to wear your kayak, just click on the link in the description below and sign up for the free mini course.

One of the most inspiring kayak-channels ever seen! Been seakayakin for the last 15-20 years, but DWTS’videos always encourage me to improve my technique further. DWTS calm voice, and filosofy about man belongs to nature stands in great contrast to other channels. Lookin forward to next video. Greetings from the west coast of Norway #selfpropelled

Great videography and editing, Paolo! "We are all between swims" actually means, "we are all dancing with the sea."

Paulo doesn't seem to advocate the low brace rolls i.e. storm roll for one. You don't have to flip your hands into a high brace in order to roll. Also, Paulo's anchor hand on the side scull does the fandango (around 4:20). I recommend keeping the back of your hand pinned to your vest to keep your blade as horizontal as possible. I'm just a paddler for fun, not money. 🥳

This is the best kayak KZbin channels out there that includes harmony and relaxation combined with paddling! I'm not sure when he will upload anything new in here, but that's not as important as that he continues to do what he wants to do and share with us, in my opinion. Thank you again Paulo!

No way, I was a kayaker all my life but I still ended up swimming once or twice, I was I thought a %100 roller but the sea can overcome all your confidence and show you that you are not yes not immune from cacking it. I’ve never used a Greenland paddle just a slim sea paddle I made, the only tech side I put into it was to oval the looms so I could feel the blade angles by instinct not looking.

Pretty sure that is a "rolling shutter" effect, not actual bending.

Hello Paulo... I have one question. How long is your greenland paddle ?
@DancingWithTheSea
@DancingWithTheSea 9 ай бұрын
The length of the Greenland paddle you see me use in most of my videos is 87” or 220cm. However, it’s crucial to note that the ideal paddle length for you may be different. I first consider the loom length, which is determined by how far apart you want your hands to be. That will depend on your preference, but mostly on how wide your shoulders are, and also the width of your kayak if it’s on the wide side. Next I would add the length of the blade you want. Most paddles have blades that are about 33.5 in. or 85 cm. If you like a faster cadence, you will want to go with a shorter blade, and for a higher cadence, you want to get a longer blade. The paddle I’m using most of the time these days has a blade that is 37 in. or 94 cm. It provides a slower cadence, and more tension on the muscles.
