If you're looking for firewood on the small isles, youre best bet is to try and find driftwood. Very few trees grow there. I used to holiday on Eigg when i was a boy, and when my parents wanted some time to themselves, they would send the kids out looking for kindling, knowing that we would be gone for hours and come back empty handed.
@getwet50110 ай бұрын
Ha ha that sounds a good ploy of your parents. Yes, I would always scour the beaches first for drift wood, this didn't come over well in this video I guess, I also checked out along the rocky edges as it can get deposited higher up in a storm. Cheers😀

For about the last 5 concessive years I've stopped on holiday on the north coast of Ardnamurchan (Fascadale cove) and every day I must look out over to the islands of Muck, Rum and Egg and wonder what it must be like kayaking around these island rather than pootling around on the north coastline, this video has given me a little insight to what it’s like, loved it.

What a fabulous trip. We are so lucky to have such wonderful places to explore. Btw what kayak trolley are you using? It looks to be very good. Thank you for sharing Bob. I’ll look forward to your next trip😊
@getwet50111 ай бұрын
Hi Helen, yea we are so very lucky, sea kayaking always reminds me of how lucky I am, in so many ways. Re the trolly, mine in a cheap and cheerful Lomo. Ive used on many trips and its good. I take care over bumps and try not to overload it, ie I carry my water bottles in the very lightweight rucksack to reduce the weight, and usually unload some of the heavy stuff out of the boat before use if I can on the beach etc, but I have used it fully loaded ok on soomth ish surfaces.... I have mate who has one, and his hasnt lasted so well though.

Hi,looking on some advice on a sleeping bag and mat to buy,what gear are you using? Thanks on another amazing trip vid also👌
@robertevans780111 ай бұрын
Hiya Tina, Thanks for the kind comments. For spring through Summer into Autum trips Im using a down 3 seasons bag, mid price. I dont have any particular recommendations on make etc, its just what I had. I like the down as it packs down smaller and less weight. The sleeping mat I use is a non insulated OEX yellow mat, fairly thin, but very comfy and with a very small pack size and low weight. Ive used this for a few years and am very happy with it. If your doing winter camps, you would need better grear than this. Im doubling up sleeping mats and use the same bag with a light weight 2 seasons bag as a blanket, this seems OK but Im sure there is better winter gear out there
@tinamcnamee641711 ай бұрын
Thanks on the reply..hard to no what to buy as they are loads to choose from 😄are you happy with the Berghaus Cairngorm tent ?
@robertevans780111 ай бұрын
Hi Tina,Yes I love the tent. great internal and usefull space for not too big a footprint. Ive looked at loads of tents, and happy to pay a lot more money for what I want, but Ive not found one that has as good space. The only down side I see is that there are a lot of poles, which can give potential for breakage. I carry a few spare sections but have never had to use them. Just take care putting it up and down and it should be fine.

Hello Bob, I saw in your fantastic videos (thank you) that you park in Oban right on the water at the main thoroughfare. I am going paddling in this area soon and would like to ask you if you think it is OK/advisable to park a car there for 2 to 4 weeks? Many thanks!
@getwet5017 ай бұрын
Hi, which video was that from? I have a couple where we paddle out from Oban and we used different car parks. Probably neither are suitable for long term parking. My other suggestion would be the Puffin dive centre, you can leave a vehicle there for a small ish fee I believe
