Umm I would follow the directions exact because they are salt water animals. And step 1 is salt so they won't hatch.

Why do people assume they know better. If it doesn't work it's because you didn't put the water purifier like it says to do! The water purifier is to add salt to the water not to clear it of chemicals. People need to do what the packet says, don't assume you know better, whoever wrote the instructions knows what they're doing! If you look it actually says use bottled water and add purifier.
