@@Raximus3000it just takes practice. The game itself tells you that you’re not supposed to always hit timed attacks/blocks, but to think of it as a nice bonus when you do hit it.

@@benjaminr7252 The devs named Chrono Trigger as one of the main inspirations for the game, but I don't recall them talking about Golden Sun. The composer of the soundtrack is also the same than for Chrono Trigger. It's clearly the main inspiration.

17 hours for me, and love taking my time with it. It's great how a person can sit down for 7-8 hours in a go and not feel bored, or take it in shorter chunks of time and get no less complete an experience. The game jumps straight back into it, and it's rare to feel lost or overwhelmed. Actually great game 👍

Some 2D throwback games feel like they use the artstyle to 'cheap out', a pretty unoriginal concept game that's meant to look timeless, when really it comes across the way Airoheart does: a soulless copy of a far better experience, with a few boring attempts to 'modernize' said 'timeless experience'. In a few cases though, a developer uses the format in a truly breathtaking fashion, the kind of 2D experience that feels not only at home on a modern console, but truly comes to life on it. It's the sort of dynamic, captivating experience that made games like Octopath Traveler capture the gaming world by force, the kind of leap forward that makes games like Star Ocean 2 Remake such a captivating concept. Sea of Stars is undoubtedly a game to wear it's influences on it's sleeve. It has no qualms breaking the fourth wall, and it has no hesitation when it comes to peeling back the curtain. But it does so in such an unashamedly lovely, sincere, and truly mesmerizing fashion, that for any gripe one might have with the game, there are 2 or 3 things that keep a person pulled in. There are moments I was certain I knew what would happen, where arcs were seemingly created to spoil what was to come. And then, just as quickly as the thought had crossed my mind, the next twist came, and subverted my every expectation. Three friends, their growth as people, accepting the roles their talents and ambitions afford them, pushing themselves beyond their boundaries. They're fearless, reckless, fallible, and ultimately lovable. It's hard not to hum 'Track 1' the second you hear it, and the jangly sea melodies are as infectious as they are bittersweet. This is a cartoony, resplendently detailed love letter to games gone by, where the genre can go next, and the often missing pangs of vicious reality necessary to ground such an experience. It's as dark as it is bright, as honest as it is hilarious, never taking itself too seriously, just enough to respect the player and ask some questions along the way. After playing the demo, I was ecstatic to learn it was a part of the PS Plus roster, and just this one game will keep my monthly subscription locked until 2024. I can only imagine I'll start a new playthrough sometime in October, in hot anticipation of said SO2, but until then, I am thoroughly entranced by this slightly flawed, subtly brilliant game.
