Sea Power - Major Dev Update!

In this video I will be covering the latest updates from the developers of Sea Power Naval Combat in the Missile Age from their latest gameplay dev update live stream on June 25th, 2024. So excited for this. This is also technically a spiritual successor to Jane’s Fleet Command, and I already love that game. The devs need all the time in the world to make this one of the best fleet sims out there. Hope for more updates!

The list of air sortie types brought up all the best memories I have of playing the Harpoon games back in the day. And the graphics are so much prettier. This will be a dream come true.

I feel like I regress to 12 years old when I see gameplay from this game. So many memories of eagerly flipping through Jane's Fighting Ships at my local library, then early naval combat stuff like Strike Fleet, Aegis, the Ancient Art of War at Sea, Enigma Rising Tide.....this game is being made by a team that clearly loves it. Their reference materials would amaze the faculty at the Naval War College, and their commitment to making something incredible has me beyond excited. Great analysis and summary!

Task Forces formations are in, together with formations editor where you move your ships into desired stations around flagship.

Lets hope that it will be similar to war on the sea on a strategic level, buy ships with supply points and make task forces for convoy raiding, invasion craft, minefields e.c.t

Eh, I don't really want something gamey like having to buy ships. I dunno how they'll handle ship requisition, or if that will even be a thing, but I hope it will feel natural and believable. Honestly, I'd prefer being put in charge of a pre made battle group assembled by a higher power and having to make due with what I've got until circumstances demand otherwise.

I want this game to succeed, but development is so slow I fear people will give up or just forget about it. Devs need to promote it more.

The game already supports formations and formation keeping. There's a formation editor that lets you place the ship stations using a bullseye interface along with a movable threat vector, and it also scales so that you can have truly vast formations where the pickets are 20-30nm ahead of the main force.

As i can see, there are too much things to do. Animation, explosion effects, visual damage effects, optimization (even devs PC makes 30 FPS) etc. My guess is end of 2025.

@@Willykurtz as I am co-founder of Triassic Games and one of core devs working on Sea Power, may I ask what's with the things you listed? Animations, explosions effects, damage -all those are in. Optimatization is still being worked on and I need to point out the dev streaming (Ivan) was playing on a laptop with second build opened in the background and several other things going on. Plus he had no Nitro so his stream was capped at framerate and resolution.

​​@@MekStark1980 2:28 Two bombs hits the ship right in the middle (actually it seems only one of them). There's no any visual damages on the superstructure. Which was really hit by one bomb. We have three explosion in "early 90 movies style". More looks like a movie FX with kerosine barrels. No realistic effects on the water. Just watch any anti ship missile trials movie. How it looks like. Flames and smoke looks very unrealistic. UI is very overloaded by small buttons sub- and sub-submenus. It will be so hard to control it during the battle. I am looking forward to Sea Power so much but after 4 years of development it could be better.

If this turns out to be like Jane's Fleet Command I am all in! There has not been a worthy successor to that game since it came out and I hope that this is it! I would also like to see a user friendly modding suite for the ability to painlessly add ships from other nations (and other eras) too.

Will this actually include sea skimming for missiles. In all previous games, they ignored this tactic but had most western ASMs at correct speed. Easy targets.

Unbelievably pumped for this one. Naval warfare is incredibly interesting and criminally under-represented in gaming Gee, co-op and PvP would be so great. Imagine co-oping with one person handling SuW, another looking after ASW, another handling air ops, etc, etc?

Yeah, this is a 'spiritual' successor to HARPOON and Jane's Fleet Command, not Red Storm Rising/Cold Waters.

We will, after launch. It was always planned to do so, because adding the Royal Navy is not a trivial undertaking and we would like to make it justice, not just adding token classes of ships here and there.

The devs were live streaming it and playing it from a laptop so quality of the live stream was degraded. I make videos in 4k but it isn't apparent from this video. As for the audio that is my poor editing skills lol
