This is what a review needs to be, something that both the gamers and developers need to hear and see to both buy and improve. The good and the bad

Arch you do realize there is an ingame log of what's happening like detections and such? Bottom right corner, middle button. It tells you most of the info you complained about not having. Really cool game, installing as I'm watching this!

Harpoon back in the early 90s had the naval warfare control scheme nailed. If they just copied that whole cloth and added graphics they’d be wildly successful. (Harpoon also had one of the best user manuals of all time. They should steal that too while they’re at it.)

anyone remember fleet command? this sounds just like the modern update to that awesome sim and i'm here for it! :)

I remember the old game Harpoon, which took a more strategic view on the entire sea combat thing - great game actually and highly recommended if you are into naval warfare.

Excellent critical analysis of the current state of the game. I have had the same issues with it, and share the same hope that they fix these things. This does need far more automation than it has now. Make the digital sailors do what they know how to do when you order them.

It's been on my wishlist since 2020. Since the days of Jane's Fleet Command i have yet to play a similar game, this winter is going to be great for gaming ! One more thing i hope for, is for it to release on GOG too.

Excellent review for what is up to this point, one of my most anticipated games and certainly on my watch list. Have the developers made some kind of development plan available to the public (aside from missions and campaigns) and are they accepting feedback from the user base? Adding behavior modifiers and missions, like CAP, Sweep, BARCAP, Escort for the aircraft for example as well as "hands free", a behavior like weapons free, but that would allow craft to break formation and the like, would go a long way into automatization and quality of life improvements.

You can’t convince me to buy the game with this review! But only because you already sold me during the livestream.

Thankyou, You provided some clarity for me, Ive been watching youtubers play the game for weeks and kinda forgot about the learning curve of games sometimes. I really dont like learning a new language to be able to play a game. I think il wait for this game, rather than jumping on it from day one. I learnt my lesson from bloody kerbal space program 2.

Mind you that the predecessor of Command: Modern Operations, called Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations, was developed as a military simulation software *for military customers* and is actually used by various military customers. For military customers having 3D video game graphics is unimportant to irrelevant, especially since the software is being used to train higher ranking officers in the military. Of course that gives Command: Modern Operations as well as its predecessor a very particular appeal. You're basically getting your hands on a professional software intended for training high ranking officers in the Navy and Air Force, which is pretty exciting imho. Rumors say the version the military gets to buy is pretty much the same as the civilian version. The main difference is that the developer will modify specific settings and parameter of various systems based on the opinion/intelligence service data of the customer. In the civilian version all systems have parameters based on open source data.

@@adoeman the question is who would be replace him with? I think it may be better to keep a slimey fool over having nothing and promoting more echo chamber behaviour. He's bad no doubt, but he does show something of the other side. And it also shows that people like that exist. I don't personally care much either way, but I do think there is some measure of value in displaying what not to be.

Its a great game so far from what I've played. Only really noticed 2 issues, 1 being the performance once a mission goes on for long enough it starts crawling down in FPS and eventually will just crash to desktop, and 2 the formation system is really jank half the time I won't even use it I'll just take my units out of formations which increases the amount of micro you need to do.
