11:33 I might be wrong but I think the Echo has to surface to launch it's missiles and actually has to stay surfaced to guide them. If you submerge before the missiles hit, they loose guidance.

Now if only my ships would obey the input commands.

i was going insane, but i *think* the issue is always that they still have some manual target that dispeared or something. At least most of the ships that do weird things and dont respond to orders for me have the option to "cease fire", and using that makes them controllable again.

What drives me nuts is them ignoring my command to go at 1/3rd speed. Often times, ships other than the task force’s lead ship, will just haul ass around the place as they please The only way around it is to disband the formation altogether… which is annoying, because I’d rather not micro 3 separate ships direction of travel

@@mostlygamingstuff1260 At least that's a work around. When my ships go kamikaze it's kind of amusing, but not tactically useful.

I noticed that if I try to split a formation up and assign a new leader, the new formation will just refuse to move. It will only start moving again if I reassign the older leader. Tried it in the mission Hormuz for example, where I wanted the three tankers to be a seperate formation, but making them this meant they simply refused to move afterwards. Tried "cease fire" command, tried formation editor, tried everything.. but no, they simply refused to move. Same problem appeared when I tried the something similar in the mission "Valuable target", where I wanted Kerch to lead the formation, again ships refused to move, until I reassigned Grozny as the leader again..

26:38 Russians refer to both their large subs and their carriers as "cruisers", usually to imply long range and high endurance. It is not a way to get around any treaty, because no such "particular treaties" were signed - it's not like pre-WW2 era of naval development. It's just a Russian naval convention.

They called their aircraft carriers cruisers in part so their government could argue they had a right to sail them through the Bosporus straits. The Montreaux Convention specifically bans aircraft carriers greater than 15k tons from passing through

Okay I'm sorry, I'm not a navy guy, but some things pop into my head. First, are depth charges not a thing anymore? Yeah I know they were popular in WW2, but do modern sub hunter ships don't carry these anymore? Is anything done with ASROCs or tube-launched torpedoes these days? Second, you called the Los Angeles class Harpoons cruise missiles. Are they though? I learned from other games those cruise missiles are called TASM and can very much be launched from vertical tubes.

1. The USSR Naval forces do use RBU-6000 which is a rocket propelled unguided depth charge. The US navy did have an equivalent in the RUR-4 but I don't believe it is mounted on any US ships in "Sea Power." Getting on top of a nuclear powered submarine and rolling charges off the back is not a practical thing in the Cold War. 2. TASM is an acronym for Tomahawk Anti Ship Missile and the Flt.1 Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine did not carry the vertical launch tubes for the UGM-109 TLAM (Tomahawk Land Attack Missile).
