So glad you're doing sea trials now Captain Steve has left BoatTEST. I really liked those tests and will miss them. (I know he's moved but he seems to be doing fewer reviews these days).

Can appreciate the emphasis on the insulation and sound dampening efforts; great variety of camera angles. Amazing tech built into this craft. Very desirable for those who can put it to its best uses.

Great Vid, Jam packed full of info; One small suggestion (if I may?)... Filming WOT or related speed trails, would be helpful to have a cutaway / picture in picture of engine screens i.e. Seeing in real time, revs, knots fuel burn etc. Great Content & Presenter! What's that? Of course I'd Love a Hat, than you Dan for offering! 😉😉🎩

Really keen to hear fuel figures at slower speeds, Dan. It’s nice to be able to kick speed in, but for me range is more important exploring the big West Oz coastline. We enjoy the slower passages anywhere from 5-10kn, trolling lures behind - so fishing all the way. My current 50ft boat (twin 480 Cummins with Zeus drives) gives me 1Nm per litre at 4.5kn - a range of 2480Nm (3100L) allowing a 20% safety margin. Even at 9kn we’re seeing 2.4L/Nm. Really keen to upgrade in the future and your boat tests are important in my considerations…but looking for big range at slower speeds. Think trawler speeds. Please could you add this to your sea trials.
@bobbuilder53629 ай бұрын
1850 rpm, 230 LPH at 17 Knots. So just makes 300 NM with 10 % reserve. So you will make Hamilton island from Gold Coast on two full tanks, or around 8000 litres burned.

Hi Bob - Bill from Florida. Why did Riviera decide on Humphries instead of Seakeeper for vessel stabilization? Very curious. And would Seakeepers be available to spec on a southeast US delivery? Thanks.

Humphries is for at speed, seakeeper is for slow speed or near stationary. Vessel has both.

Tha riviera 58 SMY has 14 Liters fuel consumption at planning speed, the 585 SUV only 9,5 Liters. Bothe have same hull and engine. Does the fly bridge and 2 tons of weight make such a difference?
@bobbuilder53629 ай бұрын
It's largely aero drag, the enclosed bridges add a significant amount. But 50 % more sounds like more than real world difference. This boat seemed unusually heavy on fuel, I would be getting Volvo out to run some tests.

@BoatLife personally from what I can tell. I think that boat would fair better with stabilizers and a SeaKeeper.

It would have been more convincing if the skipper did all of the berthing single handed. He should have activated the virtual anchor, left the helm to put the fenders out himself, then stepped off the boat to tie up a few key lines and then stepped back on board to complete the berthing and firmed up the final lines. All on his own.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife5 ай бұрын
So we often do that. It just depends on timing. I was rushing to get to the airport that afternoon so I just threw the drone up as we were docking and narrated at the same time. For me to film a sequence showing me (or someone else) docking solo it takes 2 or 3 docking attempts for me to film all the angles so I can stick it all together in editing

a boat test in fair seas is of limited use. A boat meant for off shore cruising needs to be able to hand 3 to 5 foot seas with a short period. I can't seem to find any test of this or similar Riveiras in less than ideal seas.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife8 ай бұрын
I always take the boats into the ocean for you guys but Mother Nature just gives me whatever she gives me on the day so thats what I'm able to film. In saying that this filming day was the kind of day that you would choose to cruise so hopefully gave a real world experience for some of you. That's also why I run the boat on all points of the swell so you can watch and listen to whats happenning.
@dewanehill14358 ай бұрын
@fe_DansBoatLife, the east coast of the US has a lot of shoals, sandbars and a shelf. The inlets can get gnarley and the shelf can have sustained 5 to 7 foot waive just to get to 3 foot seas in the ocean. Boats like pursuit and hatteras have a hull design that excels in these conditions. I've been tryting to learn about Riviera's hull and what the ride would be like in these condition. It is a beautiful and quality boat. Your review is outstanding. i just can't seem to find much about how the hull handles in bigger tight wave patterns.
@nealklar32122 ай бұрын
@@dewanehill1435 It is hard to find a video from the east coast since there aren't many SMY's on the east coast, most are filmed in Australia. There is a video of a 64' SMY coming into palm beach inlet, or jupiter inlet, in FLA, and seems to do just fine.
