This video starts out with me volunteering with the Georgia Sea Turtle Center’s research department as one of their AmeriCorps members goes out on dawn patrol! In the 2021 nesting season, 128 loggerhead sea turtle nests were laid on Jekyll. This morning was spent monitoring the remaining nests, which included helping out some hatchlings that were left behind 💚
I also show the release of Raine, one of our green sea turtle patients, who you can track on seaturtle.org as part of a South Carolina DNR project. Coco and Mahon were also released a few days later and they are part of that juvenile green sea turtle tracking research as well!
I also ran errands, worked from home a little, and went to tumbling practice. Overall, it was a pretty good weekend!
If you have any questions about AmeriCorps and, more specifically, Georgia Sea Turtle Center and Jekyll Island Authority’s AmeriCorps program, please ask below! I’m also down to talk about anything regarding sea turtles, animals in general, and Jekyll Island :)
