Best thing about this game is seeing the the new coaching staff knows how to make halftime adjustments. Won’t always have the right game plan going in or the guys might not be clicking that day. Have to be able to scrap the plan A and find a good plan B. Grub adjusted the playcalling beautifully to hide th o line issues 2nd half.

No YAC attack, it was night and day the fundamentals with a lot of the same players. Love in particular looked like a totally different player and "Green Dot" Dodsen was amazing, it's so nice to have a LB that isn't a liability in the pass game. The most amazing thing for me though is Cross, he had a 95 grade, highest in the league I think. What we need more than anything in this year is some of our premiere draft picks becoming blue-chippers and we are on our way. Yes, the offensive line has issues, but a quick scheme change (tighter splits) from Grubb and Huff resolved that issue for the second half for the most part. This was week 1 and our offense obviously played well below expectations and still put up over 30 points if you take away the DK penalty, combine that with a defense giving up 20 points or less and no easy yardage and we got something! GO HAWKS!

Defense looked great. O-line? Nooooooot so much. I don't totally blame Geno for the interception as the dude hit his ankle right as he was releasing - Geno had about half a second before the defense was on him pretty much the whole game. Defense played incredible! Lots of room to improve for Bradford and Tomlinson to say it mildly. Getting overpowered or just getting beat you can sometimes understand but blowing your blocking assignments is poor preparation and studying of the playbook. @TheHawksNest12thmanАй бұрын
I did see DJ Dallas house it. I don't think they felt as comfortable with him on punt returns. He struggled in that duty, though he was usually solid on the kick returns. Plus he was headed off that rookie contract so the price was going to go up, if but slightly.

I think we had around 11 missed tackles on defense but it sure didn’t feel like we missed one. We were swarming like 2013 so those “missed tackles” came with multiple defenders instantly following it up. Such a strong showing and base that we can go off of, not to mention the multiple dropped interceptions, the opportunities were there and will be capitalized! McDonald era has officially begun.

Offensive tackle is the wound that will never heal. In time it will become septic. It defines the Seahawk ceiling because Geno will become afflicted with bad habits. Self-preservation is a powerful force.
@Praying_Mantis3Ай бұрын
The Right tackle was this bad last year, at this point Geno is used to it.
@proudliberal605Ай бұрын
@@Praying_Mantis3 It is the reason why half the fanbase hates Geno. Bad habits from self-preservation. That half of the fan base doesn't realize that bringing in a new QB doesn't address the root problem. People that don't watch the franchise read the Geno negativity and reciprocally blame Geno at the expense of the offensive tackle ills and then half the fan base clings to that associated detached punditry as confirmation bias. It is a repeating cycle of a false narrative. A circular runaway effect. The offensive coordinator has to do more to protect Geno. It starts with a basic understanding of when the opposing defensive line is fresh and when it is fatigued. 1) You don't call slow developing plays against a fresh defensive line. 2) You can best fatigue an opposing defensive line by limiting their substitutions. 3) You limit defensive line substitutions by running a "hurry up" with scripted plays. 4) You don't run the "hurry up" for the sake of running a "hurry up". You just run it long enough to tactically further the defensive line fatigue. It is like a boxer landing body blows in the early rounds to set up head shots in the mid to later rounds. 5) It is the strategy that propelled Peyton Manning to greatness. He strategically fatigued defensive lines by selectively choosing when to limit their substitutions. Manning did it by unexpectedly, quickly lining up and calling audibles at the line of scrimmage. Manning strategically fatigued the opposing defensive line and gave himself time to throw by doing so. Grubb was calling slow developing plays and routes with double moves against a fresh defensive line. It never works for Seattle. You can't do it unless you have an elite offensive line. Those are second half play calls that come after landing body blows. Get those big guys tired first.

I don't understand why we decided to keep Williams over Eskridge. I mean that in a specific returner capacity. The fact that Williams' purpose is only a returner as you mentioned makes it nonsensical because AT LEAST we've seen Dee have sure hands and somewhat of an ability to be dangerous on the return. I'm pretty sure Dee was still on his rookie contract right so there's no argument here about money.
@jeremyestrill1764Ай бұрын
Williams tried to play "hero ball".....thinking "how cool it would be though I muffed this punt, I pick it up and still get a great return"
@aa-ze5czАй бұрын
I said well before this game, "Seattle should be running the ball. We've got Williams (arguably the best run blocking Center in the NFL), Walker, Charbs, Denver was one of the worst run defenses last year, and they lost Jewell." The fact Grubb came out with a pass heavy philosophy is baffling to me and makes me lost a little bit of faith. Now if it was Grubb that said, "This is not working, let's go run" that's BETTER, although why did you go in that way... but part of me thinks it was someone upstairs or MacDonald telling him to knock off this deep ball NCAAF crap.
