Fact: this song almost never made it to his second album. He was short one song so he pulled this song from a pile of songs he had written years ago and the producer turned into this excellent track. Won a grammy award for it and hit number one.
@martinkreps99463 жыл бұрын
Another fun fact: When he was making his first album in 1990, Seal thought about the song "Kiss From A Rose", and said he didn't want to put the song on his first album, because he said it "wasn't his style." He also said he "threw the tape in the corner", and he also said he felt embarrassed by it. 4 years later in 1994, when he made his second album, he looked at the song again, and decided to release it on the second album, but he had no plans to release it as a single. Then he played it for his producer Trevor Horn. And he said he loved it. And after that, the song *blew* up! A year later, it was of course released for the soundtrack to the movie Batman Forever, and that's when Kiss From A Rose *really* took off, big time. It was also when Seal became a household name. Kiss From A Rose went to no. 1 for one week on the Hot 100, and no. 1 for an astonishing *12* consecutive weeks on the Adult Contemporary Chart.

Martin Gordon What is “mic technique”?
@AlexVonCrank5 жыл бұрын
brenansenpai _ mainly using proximity to the mic and amplitude of the voice to achieve an even sound. He's selecting the right part of his anatomy to sing the notes most effectively. The lows at the same 'presence' as the highs. He's using distance and intensity to achieve a compression like delivery with the voice choosing the right part of the voice for the right notes. It means he can sing better for longer and is saving his voice from unnecessary wear and tear. Also look it up. There is decades worth of information on mic technique on the internet. Don't take my word for it.

@@AlexVonCrank How would you describe/analyze/rate Sir Elton John's mic technique, with his lips right on the mic?
@AlexVonCrank5 жыл бұрын
Bob Johnson well they have different voices for sure and Elton is/was far more of a belter and Seal is very delicate. If you are singing through an SM57 and it's an uptempo loud rocking tune it's not out of the question to get close enough for your lips to touch the mic. Look at Thom Yorke from Radiohead. Great mic technique but he touches the mic to his lips and slobbers all over the place! It's unsanitary but not necessarily bad technique. Back in the day Elton was a fantastic singer but... Father Time is undefeated... 🤷🏻♂️

@mwj53682 жыл бұрын
Hi EarlyGray! You're right on with your interpretation. Does Seal's voice always naturally have that breathy tone, or is it something he can do at the right time?
@earlygray44562 жыл бұрын
@@mwj5368 I would imagine he is able to adjust his tone and technique to the performance. In the album version he has the benefit of multi-tracked voice layers providing texture to his singing, but in a live performance he slows down and allows his voice to ring out, so adding more texture to the phrasing fills out the vocals to make up for the single voice vs the layering done in the album. Also he has to adjust to his age. I know I said in my previous comment he has not lost anything since he released this song but the voice definitely changes with time and his ability to adjust his singing and deliver such a great performance only adds to his talent. I value his musical taste and performance decisions as much as I value his singing ability. Musical decisions can elevate a naturally deficient performer or can lower a naturally gifted one. Seal does a wonderful job at working with his natural ability and complements it with great musical decisions on this performance.

@@johngablesmith4671 No human can sing multi-part harmonies with themselves also singing the lead. Impossible. Not to mention the man is decades older than he was at the time the original was recorded. In that context, this sounds about as excellent AND as close to the original as is humanly possible. I found it interesting the harmonies he chose to sing, and while we're all used to hearing all of them, that would never have been possible live without an extensive vocal orchestra to back him, and obviously that many singers could never sound like his own voice singing in tandem with his lead. As identical to the studio/original version as is possible in that setting. Expecting anything else would be unrealistic at best.

@@doh4828 Maybe the internet and social media showed us all were we have a lot of growing up and evolving to do in within the culture and social relations of humanity in general, I basically agree, but hope and love comes from within your own individual heart and soul. Don't ever let the world get you down or cause you to loose hope and love for everything good, true, and beautiful. For as much negativity and fear as is pushed in basically everything mainstream as a method of lowering the collective consciousness of humanity, there is far, far more love and compassion in this world every single day that goes unannounced and without the positive attention it all deserves. The choice is always between fear and love in every moment and in every action we take. I hope everything works out for you and your loved ones and friends and family. Eternal love and gratitude 💚
