I respect this, and fair play to this family, but living there looks more like living on a depressing prison ship than freedom.

Wasn't there an Italian architect or engineer in the sixties who did something similar just beyond the Italian waters? If I remember well, he and a friend built their platform, declared it independent, had parties and what seemed like a great deal of fun, but seemed to seriously annoy the Italian government who eventually sent in the army to remove them and blow up the platform.

An artificial structure is not an island according to international law. That is why oil rigs on the high seas do not extend the sovereign territories of a country.

I love the story of sealand, but i do have to wonder why they havent bothered expanding this further such as building an actual dock instead of using a literal rope seat to access it. Sealand has been 'independent' for years so it surprises me how little its developed from just being a world war 2 sea outpost. They could really make somerhing cool here if they had the money.

I can grasp the concept of a free nation of their own.. But not that of being princes and nobles.. because they don't have any regalia that are supposed to be sacred.. and monarchies are supposed to be religion-inspired because there is the belief that God has chosen someone to rule/reign over a nation, the "divine right".. Do they even consider their royalty as religion-inspired?
