Featuring a complete journey undertaken in the First Class AC compartment of #12314 Sealdah Rajdhani Express from #NewDelhi, the capital of India, to Sealdah, Kolkata in West Bengal. The prime purpose behind this video was to enjoy the luxuries provided by Indian Railways in its highest and best class of travel. To be honest, I wasn't disappointed. It was nothing less than what I had expected.
This video features the on board catering services of the Rajdhani, with focus on the evening snacks, the appetizers, the gala dinner and of course the huge platter on offer at breakfast the next day. Also included are the beautiful interiors of the coach and my cabin along with all facilities available in it.
Special mention to the dedicated shower room where one can enjoy a full fledged hot shower; thanks to a geyser. This is something available only on First Class AC coaches in Indian Railways. Even the washrooms are fitted with all basic amenities.
What comes secondary is the Rajdhani's high speed run all the way to Kolkata. It covers a distance of more than 1450 kms in about 18 hours. That's quite a feat given the speed standards of Indian Railways. The plethora of overtakes of several trains along the way make the journey more satisfying. Special mention to the parallel departure with the Mumbai Rajdhani Express from New Delhi which takes no time to race ahead leaving us vanquished.
Courteous staff, clean and well maintained coaches, delicious food and of course the unerring run made my journey a perfect one. It's safe to say the Sealdah Rajdhani is easily one of the best Rajdhani-s plying in the Indian Railways circuit presently. That's even more staggering given it used to be quite ill -maintained as recently as 4 years ago.

Special mention to the crossings of River #Yamuna at night, the a thunderous crossing of River #Barakar next day along the Jharkhand-Bengal border and River Hughli at #Dakhsineshwar, Kolkata.

HOG was there definitely. They keep H1 in the middle to keep it just adjacent to the Pantry Car. That's the standard norm. Earlier days, when Sealdah and Howrah Rajdhani-s used to have 2 Pantry Cars, the H1 used to be at the rear of the train and one Pantry used to dedicated for it.

I have always loved traveling by train, especially considering the nostalgia associated with it.. Having grown up in Mumbai, train journeys every summer to Didu's house in Kolkata meant almost 3 days of sweat and toil..there weren't that many choices some 30 years back :) But as the years passed, most of us have become accustomed to AC, comfort and luxury. Air is faster, more convenient and costs almost the same as 1st AC.. I do miss train travel.. The video brought back memories..thanks for sharing :) P.S - Now I'm hungry! :D so many yummy dishes!

@@pramitronria ​ Pramit Mitra Of course, but aajkal berono hoyena..and if we do go, since Maa has osteoarthritis, it's more convenient to use air.. :) We used to travel by Gitanjali Exp mostly, sometimes Bombay Mail and then by the Jnaneshwari Exp...Duronto te travel korechi twice, but I did that alone after we shifted base to Kolkata in 2010.. I don't have much memories of the second class travel except eating melted ice cream, bugging Dad for cold drinks EVERY TIME the pantry people brought it out, reading Chacha Chowdhary and Tinkle and carrying a walkman and my own bag full of unnecessary cassette tapes :P oh and the basket of food carrying Luchi, Chicken, bhurji, mishti, dim sheddho, bread butter and such :D

Earlier food in trains used to be so good. Now its gone down a lot. But i loved hearing your tales; believe me I can relate to most of it myself. Only thing, I used to stay glued to the window to see whats outside :)

@@pramitronria Yeahhh, I've experienced the decline in food quality too..it's not like they can't afford better meals; wonder what stops them? Hehe oh yes, window seats and bayere dekha..scenery changing from state to state..more greenery as we entered Orissa and so on. The sound of a train moving in the deep, dark night is one of my most fav sounds in the world. Do you know I have a recording of a train traveling at night on my phone? I play it at night, it helps me sleep because I have insomnia :)
