I have the same battery size that was manufactured in 1999. It had been sitting dead probably since 2005. I did the same procedure as this guy did except I added 20 ml of sulfuric acid to each cell and the rest with distilled water. I did the pulse repair for a few days and it was worthless. I got 12v and maybe 70w/hr for all that repair. Forget the pulse repair hype, they are worthless. I had purchased a bunch of VoIP phones from a failed business in 2008 which had plug in wall adapters that would produce 26v at 2amp. I connected this power adapter to the battery along with a voltage meter. For 24 hours I was getting a voltage reading at about 25.9v. Several more hours later, 2 or 3, I went back to look at it again and the voltage had dropped to 20.1. Before I went to bed for the night, I looked again and the fuse had tripped on the power adapter. Voltage meter now reading 5.72 volts. I went to bed. In the morning voltage was down to 3.1 volts. I connected up another power adapter to the battery for the total count of 2 power adapters connected to the battery at 26 volt. That brought the voltage back to 22.2 volts. 12 hours later it was down to 21.5 volts. The next morning, both fuses had tripped on the power adapters voltage at 4.45 volts. I reset the trip fuses and turned them back on. 15 minutes later I went to check and once again both fuses had tripped. I have a 200amp car battery charger that would start a diesel Mac Truck. I connected that up. It was pulling more than 40 amp. 12 hours later, I went out to check and disconnected the car charger. It was maintaining 11.1 volts. I did a discharge test and got 3150w/hr. I plan on doing a few more fully discharge and recharge with 200amps. I fully believe that this battery will come back to life.
@kurtilingus
@kurtilingus 4 жыл бұрын
Damn, you just left a battery rolling along sight-unseen after observing it was pulling 40a? Heh, surprised when you left it to charge it wasn't a "Dudes Walk Away From Explosions" moment. Not safety nagging or anything, in fact I admire your boldness. Curious if you now have a functional battery in rotation now too..
@nathanwoodruff9422
@nathanwoodruff9422 4 жыл бұрын
@@kurtilingus Battery got a little warm, but yes, I let it be. It was sitting outside my garage on concrete, but I didn't ever think that it would burst into flames or explode. I've charged 850 cold cranking amp car batteries well above 80 amps for almost an hour with no problems. That battery would only pull 40 amps for an hour or less before the current would start to drop off sharply. But, yes, I have a functional battery after 2 additional charges at 12 volts and then moving on to 26 volts again. I believe that the high amperage of the car battery charger/starter cleaned off most of the oxidation from the lead and copper plates and or helped break up the clumps of sulfur that formed in between the plates. It took a week or more of almost constant charging at 26 volts for the battery to start holding a 12.4 volt charge. Higher voltage or current is far better than any pulse repair device. But, yes the battery is functional and useable. For how long I don't know though. I might come back in 6 months and leave an update.

@@franekw5274 _"What about today? Is that battery still alive and working nice?"_ The battery worked well for about 3 months at about 13Ah. It tailed off quickly after that as I am assuming that sulfur deposits started forming where they were zapped off originally. I then did as before and did the 26 volt approach for a month and got good results but it only lasted for about a month. I cracked the battery open and pulled out the plates. The majority of the plates had oxidized and fallen off to the bottom of the battery. I decided it wasn't worth it to try to save it as if you get the sulfur off the plates, most of the oxidized lead, will come off as well. My thought is it is probably best to recycle the battery and buy a new one. One repair of a dead lead acid cell might be fine but after that, it is a lost cause.

Thanks.... I got the same charger. I just drilled a sealed lead acid 85Amp & topped up with distilled water & is now charging via pulse repair. When unplugged after a couple of hours voltage was 13.1Volts so I'm continuing pulse repair looks like I have restored it. I will use hot glue to seal the holes & which will be easy to remove for a further top-up. The sealed batteries can be brought back if you can get water in.

Just a note to everyone who doesn't realize this. Even if the battery was able to be recovered, it has to remain upright all the time. Boosters use VRLA batteries. As such, those have to remain sealed because I'm sure that they'll get tossed in the trunk when not in use. The moment you tear the plastic lid off, good luck keeping it sealed.

How do you discharge the battery @2:26??
@bjarnieinarsson3472
@bjarnieinarsson3472 3 жыл бұрын
Wow.. you don't seems to understand a single basic fact in this instrument. 1) This is both repair and charge unit. 2) With repair mode, this unit will desulfate your battery. On the way, it will charge, but not necessarily enough. 3) Battery with 0.3V is almost dead and will need lot's of desulfate process. i.e. You will need to repair it for couple of days. 4) After couple of days of desulfating, you will try to recharge it (not the same as repair) 5) If no good, then I would discharge the battery and try again to repair it with high voltage repair pulse feature. ps. I wouldn't have voltage meter on battery while repair it.

So the whole video you basically did nothing. The battery was dead and remained dead. Your biggest problem is the filling of the battery. you need to put the needle deep into the battery and fill a specific amount usually about 10 - 30Ml per cell and let it soak in. Then charge the battery. your watering didn't do anything.

I restored my battery with this guide BUT my batteries stay horizontally, not vertically inside the scooter and some liquid was spilled as the rubber caps cant keep the liquid inside. Question: can I permanently put some glue on the holes and seal them shut so there wont be anymore spills OR it releases gases and it can blow due to creating pressure if I seal the holes????
@JonAhlquist
@JonAhlquist 2 жыл бұрын
Lead-acid batteries vent gases, so do not completely seal either the rubber caps or the plastic cover on top of the rubber caps. Venting is how the water escaped that is being replaced in this video. Because even new batteries vent, lead-acid batteries like these need to be kept upright so that the acid will not leak out. If your scooter is designed so that the batteries are mounted horizontally, then I suspect it was designed for AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) or gel cells, which do not have a liquid acid solution and hence do not leak when laid on their side.

You have to cut into it a little higher then the breathing holes therefore when you seal it , your sealing only the new cuts you did to it not the breathing holes it had before good luck

The only thing I found useful is "safety first" 😂 shitty recovery. He needs to drain all the acid from the battery first then mix fresh 80% distilled water to a 20% ratio of sulfuric acid. (that's why it's called a lead acid battery) This guy is misguiding people. Please don't follow this. He needs a 200amp charger to charge for a duration of 2 hours and then wait for 1 hour to cool down the battery after which he needs to repeat the process of charging for 2 days it's a lengthy process and takes time but the results are good. People with half knowledge do this like this and mislead people for views and likes. 80/20 ratio is important else it won't work. It's like having only water and no food to give you energy ⚡.. 😂

SLA (sealed Lead Acid) name is a actually a misnomer. The correct name is Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) battery. There is a small gap under each rubber cap for gas but NOT gel or aborbed liquid to escape. The rubber caps behave like a one way gas valve. The electrolyte of SLA/VRLA battery is either a gel (then also called a GEL battery) or liquid acid absorbed in Absorbed Glass Mat (then also called an AGM battery). Adding water will hydrate & revitalise the dried GEL or dried Glass Mat so that electricity can conduct again.

How do you check how much acid or distilled water is left in the Battery before you start refilling it. The hydromers for cars are to big. Please advise where you obtain such a device from and how much they cost in UK sterling (£) thanks for your help .
